Department: Abbotsford Canucks

Reports to: General Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manager, Game Presentation manages and oversees all game-related and other in-arena promotional activities and special event activities for the Abbotsford Canucks AHL hockey club.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

(Other duties may be assigned as required)

  • Direct live in-arena production for all Abbotsford Canucks home games
  • Manage game-day personnel, including the Ice Team, Hype Team, and Game Host
  • Responsible for all game entertainment, including but not limited to game scripting, in-arena promotions, LED/video selection, special presentations/ceremonies, live entertainment, and talent bookings
  • Work in conjunction with sponsorship, ticketing, arena operations, retail, hospitality, public/media relations, and broadcast to ensure all contractual elements are delivered in-house and conform to company excellence standards
  • Implement strategic plan for Game Entertainment
  • Train other personnel in headset producing
  • Work with television, print, league, and radio partners regarding game operations and events on local and national levels
  • Script and direct special event initiatives of the Abbotsford Canucks
  • Produce and direct other event initiatives of the company within the arena
  • Create new and innovative ideas and concepts regarding game entertainment
  • Liaise with building operation and event services staff on technical projects regarding systems used for event presentation (i.e., LED, video, audio, lighting)
  • Manage and approve hours of part-time event staff
  • Evaluate and update processes for booking and managing talent on game days, including announcer, DAK operators, in-game host, organist, anthem singers, drummers, DJ, etc.
  • Plan and manage game day and non-game day rehearsals, theme nights, and game-to-game elements such as crowd prompt initiatives
  • Main point of contact for Off Ice Officials and ensuring they have the equipment and tools they need on a nightly basis

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years’ experience in live event direction or production at a senior level or equivalent work experience
  • Formal post-secondary credential in Broadcasting or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Independent, creative problem-solver
  • Highly organized, motivated, and responsible with good time and project management abilities
  • Ability to remain calm in a fast-paced live environment
  • Solid team player with superior organizational and administrative skills
  • Strong live direction, scripting, and copy-writing skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Interest in and knowledge of AHL Hockey
  • Able to work flexible and long hours, including evenings and weekends, as and when required
