Department: Facility Operations & Engineering

Reports to: Senior Director, Arena Operations

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manager, Plant Operations ensures the efficient and cost-effective operation of the facility. Key responsibilities include overseeing day-to-day ice operations and building preparations for all events at Rogers Arena. The incumbent will make recommendations for new systems, additions, repairs, and replacements and will ensure that health and safety requirements are met. The Manager, Plant Operations is also responsible for supervising five full-time Building Operators and contracted services.

This role will focus on:

  • Responsible for ice installation, maintenance, and removal
  • Scheduling and following up on preventative maintenance tasks for mechanical, refrigeration, and other operational equipment within the building
  • Completing reports relating to ice quality, mechanical, and refrigeration operation
  • Representing the Engineering department as Building Operations Management during events
  • Initiating, developing, and implementing programs and systems relating to facility and equipment maintenance, including preventative maintenance and management
  • Managing the annual budget for assigned operating systems (i.e. HVAC, refrigeration plant, etc.)
  • Monitoring and evaluating revenue and expenditures status on an on-going basis, preparing budget summaries and analysis as required
  • Managing a team of Building Operators in a pro-active and professional manner, striving for 100% employee satisfaction
  • Providing input to the capital budgeting process
  • Providing input in developing department operating procedures manual and ensuring procedures are adhered to within department
  • Liaising with Event Services and Game Entertainment departments to ensure event requirements are supported
  • Providing back-up support for vacation and other relief for team members

YOU HAVE:

  • At least 6-8 years of experience in ice maintenance and related ice-making equipment operations
  • At least five years of experience in a supervisory role at a multi-purpose facility
  • Must possess a Fourth-Class Power Engineering Certificate and a Refrigeration Operator Certificate
  • Completion of formal training including pressure vessels and refrigeration
  • Experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a physical plant of comparable size and complexity in a computerized control environment
  • Strong and proactive supervisory skills in a unionized environment
  • Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety practices associated with the area of facility maintenance and operations
  • Strong administrative and computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office
  • Outstanding time management skills including the ability to prioritize clients, projects, and resources
  • Onsite role at our office in downtown Vancouver
