Job Description:

Summary

The Director, Minor League Strength & Conditioning and Nutrition plays a crucial role in the success of the New York Mets Player Development operation. The Director will be responsible for the development and execution of comprehensive nutrition and strength & conditioning philosophy and systems across all developmental levels in our Minor League system, closely collaborating with the Major League Staff to carry out the organization’s mission. This leadership position involves managing and supervising the Minor League Strength and Conditioning and Nutrition staffs, fostering a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach with key stakeholders throughout the Performance, Player Development, and Performance Technology departments as well as the broader organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with the Director, Performance and Major League Performance staff, act as the philosophical lead in the delivery of data-driven S&C and nutrition programs across all of player development with the goal of maximizing player talent, health, and readiness

  • Lead and manage S&C and Nutrition functions in the minor leagues, both domestic and international, including direct management of coordinators and overseeing of staff development initiatives for Minor League S&C and Nutrition

  • Implement a process for players to achieve and maintain levels of body mass, body fat, and muscle mass that is consistent with elite level performers.

  • Develop and oversee the execution of a system aimed at creating resilient, high-performing athletes

  • Oversee S&C and Nutrition in the Dominican Republic, including both the athletic development of international players and supporting our player acquisition processes for international players Ensure that all strength coaches and nutritionists have an understanding of the demands of the sport and the ability to provide evidenced-informed programming accordingly

  • Ensure that all physical performance programs are supported by evidence-informed objective data aimed at maximizing human performance

  • Work closely with coaches (e.g., pitching, hitting, infield, outfield, catching, baserunning) to build out frameworks for skill acquisition and movement preparation, drive alignment on technical models, and fully integrate and align athletic development with baseball development

  • Work alongside medical, AT, and PT coordinators to ensure player’s individual prep and rehab plans are designed to maximize player performance and reduce risk of reinjury

  • Travel to each affiliate team throughout the year to drive alignment, education, provide oversight of systems related to S&C and Nutrition, and fill in for S&C coaches as needed

  • Assist in the onboarding of newly drafted and signed players to our Player Development system

  • Contribute to hiring and onboarding of new staff and carrying out the mission and vision of the Performance Department

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on food, nutrition, and health issues and research related to sports nutrition and strength and conditioning

  • Direct off season camps domestically and internationally

  • Manage budgets for Minor League S&C and Nutrition

Essential Position Requirements:

  • 10+years experience working with athletes in high-level sports (e.g., professional sports, Division I athletics)

  • Undergraduate degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, or related degree

  • NSCA CSCS, RSCC, and CPR/First Aid certification

  • 5+ years experience in management/leadership position

  • High-level ability in programming short and long term strength & conditioning programs and integrating nutrition plans to positively impact body composition

  • Ability to develop organizational athletic development philosophy in collaboration with Major League staff

  • High-level knowledge of nutritional supplement uses, measures of resting metabolic rate, energy expenditure, and body frame projections.

  • Track record of developing performance programs and nutritional plans for sport-specific demands and to further long-term athletic development

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate with stakeholders with varied levels of subject matter knowledge (e.g., athletes, coaches, front office personnel)

  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally

  • Must be able to work unconventional hours

  • Experience with player performance assessments and athlete readiness monitoring

  • Familiarity with athlete monitoring systems, force plate systems, athlete positioning systems, and load cell and strain gauge-based testing devices

Desired Position Requirements:

  • Postgraduate/Master's degree in a relevant discipline

  • Experience working in baseball (e.g., MLB, MiLB, Collegiate)

  • Bilingual: Spanish & English

  • Experience of developing staff continuing educations programs to ensure appropriate onboarding and continued development of new and existing staff

  • Nutrition degree and or certifications preferred.
