Sheffield United Football Club are seeking a passionate and highly motivated Performance Nutritionist to join our elite performance team. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in sports nutrition, coupled with a proven track record of delivering exceptional results in a high-performance environment. As a key member of our First Team staff, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing player performance, injury prevention, and overall well-being through evidence-based nutritional strategies.


Role Responsibilities:

  • Implement evidence-based individualised strategies to support players performance and body composition goals e.g. fuelling, strength development, fat loss, hydration status etc.
  • Work closely with the Head Chef to oversee and create periodised weekly training ground menus as well as hotel menu planning.
  • Assist in the serving of lunch at the training ground as a point of education and to manage personalised periodisation plans.
  • Good degree of cooking competency. Contribute to cheffing duties when required, such as pasta and breakfast stations.
  • Travel to all home and away games to ensure optimum match day nutritional strategies are in place and adhered to.
  • Work alongside the medical department in creating rehabilitation nutrition plans for injured players to facilitate their return to training.
  • Carry out body composition analysis through the skinfold method alongside DEXA scans and report data back to MDT and coaching staff.
  • Develop and implement innovative and evidence-based nutrition education sessions and resources to increase nutrition knowledge throughout the team.
  • Being accountable for ordering and stock control of supplements in line with the budget and Informed Sport guidelines.
  • Manage and coordinate nutrition assistant who will help with the delivery of the performance nutrition service.
  • Coordinate collection, interpretation, and feedback of player nutritional data e.g. hydration, sweat rate, blood markers, body composition etc.
  • Being innovative with ideas to enhance adherence to the nutrition programme.
  • Assessment on individual player lifestyle habits including, but not limited to, dietary habits, wellness, recovery strategies.
  • Communicate and influence external parties, such as personal chefs and agents.
  • Any other reasonable requests as directed by management.

Essential Criteria for the role:

  • Excellent interpersonal skill and an outgoing personality
  • BSc Sports Nutrition (or relevant degree topic)
  • Significant prior experience working in performance nutrition at an elite level
  • Education and experience in behavioural coaching
  • SENR graduate registration
  • ISAK level 1 trained
  • UK Anti-Doping advisor
  • Excellent educational material development ability (posters, social media, presentations, etc)
  • Good data management skills
  • Experience using nutrition software
  • Good work ethic & commitment to professional development


Desirable Criteria for the role:

  • MSc or PhD in relevant degree
