A quick summary about the role:
Primary responsibility is providing broadcast technical setup and support for events including live multi-camera events in the Kia Center and Osceola Magic events at the Silver Spurs Arena. Responsible for the set up and ensuring successful operation of the video control room, Truck Dock I/O, IPTV/Digital Signage and other video systems.
What the role will do:
- Serve as Video Engineer for assigned events at the Kia Center and Orlando Magic Corporate facilities including the affiliate G-League facility (Osceola Magic events only), Basketball Operations Training Facility, Orlando Magic eGaming and Orlando Solar Bears (as needed); Lead Engineer as assigned by the STOVE.
- Operate and maintain proper video engineering tools and equipment
- Perform routine maintenance for all Orlando Magic owned broadcast and AV systems in the video production facility and Kia Center video room.
- Ensure proper operation and upkeep of the video switcher, CGs, router and other broadcast equipment.
- Assist with management of the digital signage and IPTV systems during events.
- Advise and provide regular “check-in” support with the Osceola Magic as needed, both on a preventative nature and as limited game support.
- Perform engineering support and maintenance for Basketball Operations located at the Kia Center and Advent Health Training Center as assigned.
- Work with the Broadcast Services and Control Room Senior Manager as liaison and EIC between national and local broadcasters and the Kia Center and Silver Spurs Arena to facilitate connectivity and transmission for event coverage and broadcasts, supporting and training operators of video control room equipment and cameras, and providing timely feedback on crew and operation in coordination with the STOVE and BSCRSM.
- Provide timely technical response and updates on any repair tickets submitted for control room and broadcast equipment.
- All other duties as assigned.
What the role needs to have:
- 2 years of proven live video production skills with an emphasis on teamwork and problem solving required.
- 2 or more years’ experience in the broadcast or audio/video field, primarily in the areas of HD-SDI multi-camera control room operations, experience with IT network infrastructure, video routing and production flow required.
- Basic knowledge of DANTE systems preferred.
- Experience or working knowledge covering the following skills:
- LED Video Display technology (Daktronics systems knowledge preferred)
- Analog, SDI and HD SDI video distribution standards
- Digital video filtering and scalable video coding
- Scan rate conversion, genlocking, color phase
- Experience with IPTV based video distribution systems, including encoding and DirecTV IP distribution
- Knowledge of Digital Signage Systems, including content management, best practices.
- Image and video processing
- Multimedia signal processing and technology
- AES/EBU or AES3 digital audio interface standards
- Basic knowledge of fiber connectors and video transmissions over fiber
- Understanding of NDI networks
- Adequate cable management and manufacturing skills
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment.
- Ability to be open to changes and adapt to unexpected situations under pressure.
- Be open to work weekends, or holidays to meet live events
- Set-up and maintenance of various record and playback broadcast machines and broadcast cameras
- Operation and set-up of various video production switchers
- General knowledge of the operation and maintenance of audio mixers, microphones, and various audio decks preferred.
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office products and other related computer skills required.
- Ability work all Magic home games plus a select number of non-Magic events. This includes the ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends and be on-call as necessary based on the changing priorities of the department.
Physical requirements
- Position will be required to stand and be on feet for prolonged periods of time during event shifts.
- Occasional lifting of heavier objects up to 25 lbs +. necessary when setting up for events.
- Occasional lifting of heavier objects up to 40 lbs +. necessary when setting up for events
- Capability to climb ladders and scaffolding
- Capability to lift in excess of 50 pounds
- Capability to work in high places
