THE POSITION

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) is a people focused individual who thrives on being organized and wants to contribute in building a people focused culture. Reporting to the Senior Director, Human Resources the individual will support and provide HR advisory work.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Human Resources Business Partner is responsible for the following:

Employee Relations

  • Support assigned business units with employee relations matters including conflict resolution, recommendations and coaching.
  • Lead workplace investigations for assigned business units.
  • Lead and coach managers on disciplinary actions and steps including expectation letters, performance improvement plans, written warnings, etc.
  • Build strong relationships with managers within the assigned portfolios. Help build strong leadership skills within the business to ensure Managers and Supervisors can effectively handle employee relations issues and concerns and support internal escalation model.
  • Partner with managers and department heads on termination process and paperwork. Take lead on exit interviews and exit process.

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Leading recruitment files for internal movements within business unit including drafting of employment agreements and job descriptions.
  • Support the recruiter, when necessary, on external postings within business units and provide input and expertise.
  • Engage and support internal job fairs and proactively support the recruiter for high volume recruiting activities.

Reporting

  • Gather, analyze, and report relevant HR Data and analytics to the Senior Director, HR.
  • Update and complete reporting on a monthly and/or quarterly basis on the following:
    • 90 day feedback from new hires (while understanding possible trends).
    • Analysis key information and proactively understand gaps.
    • Exit Interviews – Quarterly analysis and reporting.

Administration

  • Prepare internal agreements for full-time and fixed-term employees and/or consultants.
  • Proactively review contract management in collaboration with the HR team to ensure assigned business units are managed and reviewed in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the planning, creation, and implementation of Human Resources policies and practices, while ensuring communication with key stakeholders occurs.
  • Assist with internal and external training and tracking of assigned business units.
  • Knowledge of benefits and LOA and processes and procedures.
  • Active participation in the Safety Program and follow all safety rules.
  • All other duties as assigned.

THE INDIVIDUAL

The ideal candidate will have the following background:

  • Post-Secondary education in Human Resources, Commerce or Business Administration.
  • 5-7 years of progressively more responsibility in Human Resources.
  • A minimum of 5 years at an Advisor level is required.
  • Solid business experience in a fast-paced organization with the ability to focus and deliver on tasks.
  • Intermediate to advanced skill set in collaborative problem-solving techniques.
  • Understanding of legislation within Alberta, specifically Employment Standards, Human Rights, PIPA are required.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;

  • Collaborative with HR colleagues and the business, with the ability to be resourceful and autonomous;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment (1800+ employee environment);
  • Strong integrity and ethics, coupled with the ability to keep matters and information strictly confidential;
  • Demonstrated ability to practice and show empathy, while building strong working relationships within the HR team and business;
  • Demonstrated sound judgement and decision making skills with strong organizational skills, with ability to know when to escalate to the Manager, Human Resources for resolution support;
  • Knowledge of best practices within Human Resources, Recruitment, Onboarding, Training & Development, Employee Relations, HR Systems and Process Management;
  • You analyze all ‘avenues’ to problem solving and are able to approach concerns in a collaborative manner, while keeping calm in high stress situations;
  • You are exceptional in managing priorities, despite deadlines, and have a strong sense of prioritization and ability to follow up on outstanding tasks in a proactive manner;
  • Exceptional Microsoft Office skills are required;
  • Experience in HRIS environment, preferably experience with UltiPro and KRONOS;
  • You are people focused and results driven, coupled with exceptional communication skills.
