Position Overview:
The Chicago Bulls Business Strategy and Analytics Department is a team of strategic critical problem solvers who champion a continuous improvement approach across the organization. Our mission is to collaborate with key decision makers across the business and empower them with data and insights to better serve our fans.
The Director of Data & Technology Strategy will develop and lead our org-wide data strategy, including how we collect, store, model, and visualize data. This individual will be responsible for leading our transition to a modern data stack and will directly lead a small team who maintain our data warehouse and CRM system. In this role, you will partner with other departments across business operations to improve our understanding of business performance and be a champion of data-driven decision making at all levels of the organization.
Responsibilities:
This role will be responsible for both Data & Technology Strategy as well as ongoing management of our Data Warehouse & CRM systems:
Data & Technology Strategy
Define the vision, strategy and roadmap for building a modern data stack and manage its implementation
Collaborate with all business operations departments to understand data’s role in helping them achieve their short and long-term priorities
Proactively build and manage vendor relationships for data and analytics tools and partners
Establish rules and processes to standardize data collection and structures and ensure accuracy, integrity, and completeness of data
Liaise with the NBA to understand best practices around fan data strategy
Keep a pulse on new technology innovations and vendors as they relate to data, analytics, and strategy
Database and CRM Management
Lead the activities of a small team to ensure data priorities are being met
Lead the day-to-day management of our data warehouse, CRM system, and key third-party integrations
Establish best-in-class data governance structures and processes
Build and standardize queries and data sources to enable other team members to quickly draw insights and maintain consistent metrics
Improve automation and integrations between systems to simplify manual processes
Optimize the current CRM configuration and identify improvements to enhance usability based on new business requirements and feedback from end users
Monitor data health and quality across all databases
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with a consistent track record of professional and personal achievement
7+ years of professional experience in a data and analytics role
2+ years managing staff, including responsibility for project assignments and performance evaluation
Exceptional SQL skills and comfort creating, updating and managing tables within a SQL database
Proficiency in other programming languages, including Python or R
Experience working with a Cloud Data Warehouse such as Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery
Experience working with data ingestion and reverse ETL tools such as Fivetran, Matillion Census, or Hightouch
Experience working with a data transformation / modeling tool such as dbt
Experience managing a BI tool and designing effective visualizations (Tableau preferred)
Familiarity with CRM applications, preferably Microsoft Dynamics CRM
Experience handling budgets and efficiently allocating resources to meet business objectives

A broad background across data warehousing, ETL, and reporting, that is excited about architecting new data platforms
Entrepreneurial spirit that thrives in a high profile, small business, balancing multiple projects across different functions
