Position Overview

The Director of Arena Operations & Sustainability is part of an integrated team to ensure the effective utilization of the Spectrum Center Arena. You are responsible for creating and fostering an efficient, productive, and consistent working relationship among Hornets Sports & Entertainment (HSE) and its Arena partners; including Jani King, Levy, and CRVA in order to ensure operational excellence at Hornets home games and other events at the Arena.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations and collaboration with building partners including CRVA, Jani-King and Levy Restaurant
  • Plan and recommend arena operations budget, manage expenditures and report on budget variances for projects you are leading
  • Ensure compliance with all city, state and federal requirements of public facilities
  • Collaborate with corporate partnerships and ticket services on building upgrades to achieve operational and activation objectives
  • Recruit, lead, supervise, motivate and provide leadership to team members using evaluation, training and coaching
  • Assist with parking management relationship to ensure annual parking budget is maintained and parking request are approved timely
  • Work to ensure that all entities of the Spectrum Center Arena including Arena Operations are operating in accordance with the Use Agreement, HSE and NBA’ standards and protocols (i.e. cleanliness, concessions, functionality)
  • Act as the liaison between all HSE staff and Spectrum Center Administration for all issues regarding the use of the arena for Charlotte Hornets home games
  • Responsible for collaborating with Basketball Operations to ensure all building needs are exceeded
  • Walk the building to ensure our standards and level of service is being provided; communicate with staff/partners/customers to meet needs
  • Solicit and oversee subcontractors within compliance and ensure they are performing and delivering projects to an acceptable quality standard and within budget
  • Assist Vice President of Arena Operations to plan and implement business development strategy for growth and large scale renovation projects
  • Develop and implement an inclusive sustainability strategy and roadmap for the arena, aligning with global sustainability goals, industry best practices and local regulations
  • Build and implement a comprehensive tracking system to monitor, measure and report various sustainability initiatives
  • Lead cross-functional teams to promote sustainable practices across all arena operations, including waste management, water conservation, energy efficiency, and carbon footprint reduction
  • HSE Lead on the building OSHA safety program from on operations perspective
  • Work irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Other duties assigned by Manager

Required Skills, Experience and Abilities

To perform the job successfully, you will have or demonstrate the following skills and abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferred
  • 6+ years Arena Operations experience, including demonstrated success working as a member of a team
  • Proven knowledge of sustainable practices and technologies such as renewable energy, waste management and water
  • Highly organized, process and detail oriented; strong project management skills
  • High level of dedication to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
  • Flexibility to adapt to frequently changing work environment and deliver on ambitious demands
  • Interpersonal skills – ability to maintain confidentiality, listens to others and willing to try new ideas
  • Excellent critical reasoning skills with the proven ability to partner across functionally and effectively build links
  • Excellent communication skills including written and verbal; ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely
  • Presents self in professional manner and have ability to interact with all levels of the organization and outside contacts
  • Available to work a variable schedule, including holidays, nights, weekends and Spectrum Center Events
