Position Overview

Hornets Sports & Entertainment (HSE) is looking for an intern to join our Digital department. The Digital Design intern will gain knowledge of social media, graphic design, and photography practices and processes. This internship offers the opportunity to work with a diverse group of digital professionals in a fast-paced, dynamic and challenging environment.

This is a paid internship. Interns will be paid $12.00 per hour, with the ability to work thirty (30) hours maximum per week. The 2024 - 2025 season program runs from September 9, 2024, through April 25, 2025.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the completion of a variety of digital projects including game day social assets, organizing, and producing partnered content for social media and web, and creating timely visuals based on game-related events or milestones.
  • Assist the digital team with larger projects and have the opportunity to participate in group projects.
  • Organize graphic assets and photo files for the department.
  • Engage in the full internship program, including workshops, speaker series, job shadow opportunities and work closely with fellow interns to successfully complete and present the intern project

Required skills, experience, and abilities

To be successful in this position, you should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Knowledge of basic layout design and typesetting.
  • Experience in basic-to-intermediate level photography skills
  • Hands-on knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator in a MAC environment is required.
  • Ability to be flexible and quickly create graphics based on team news or trending topics on social media
  • Ability to cover live events, including basketball games, practices and community events by taking high-quality photography and vertical phone video for live social coverage.
  • Ability to act professionally when interacting with or around members of basketball operations staff.
  • Great communication skills and time management skills as well as the ability to multi-task
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and use discretion when privy to sensitive information
  • Strong knowledge of the NBA and the Hornets is preferred.
  • A flexible and reliable team member, both within your department and the company as a whole.
