Position: Accountant, Retail
Department: Finance
Reports to: Controller, Hockey Operations
Summary:
The Accountant, Retail is responsible in assisting with the preparation of monthly financial statements, monitoring of the annual budget and forecasting. This role will also be responsible for providing recommendations and guidance on implementing policies, procedures and best practices and other duties as outlined below.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements, maintain monthly balance sheet and profit & loss reconciliations, and monitor the budget with monthly variance analysis and forecasting
- Assist Director of Retail in preparing the annual budget and quarterly forecast and cost benefit analysis for new retail projects
- Prepare year end audit working papers
- Prepare and distribute weekly sales flash report to Management and Retail Operations team
- Reconcile month end inventory balances, analyzing discrepancies between Yellow Dog and D365 accounting system and support Yellow Dog & Square POS maintenance
- Assist and supervise inventory counts including periodic cycle spot counts
- Reconcile internal billings and ensure appropriate departmental approvals and coding are in place
- Ensure vendor invoices are processed on a timely basis and match to receiving reports, follow-up on discrepancies
- Prepare monthly PST remittances
- Work main concert nights to ensure compliance with inventory and payment processing controls
- Update current policies, procedures, systems and best practices for the retail operations team
- Document and monitor compliance of internal controls and procedure manuals
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 3 years of general accounting experience, with exposure to preparing financial statements and account analysis.
- Bachelor’s degree/diploma in Accounting or Business
- Preference given to candidates with retail industry experience or enrolment in the CPA program
- Strong working knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, and accounting systems
- Strong work ethic, loyalty, and dedication
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to effectively communicate financial results to various members of the Leadership Team
- Self-starter with effective organizational and time management skills, and the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyze data
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required
- Able to work full-time in the office
BENEFICIAL EXPERIENCE TO HAVE:
- Exposure with Microsoft D365 Business Central, Square, JET Reports and or Yellow Dog Inventory System
