The Role of the Football Media Executive

The Football Media Executive is part of our Football Communications team. They are part of the delivery of the First Team players’ media obligations, leading and managing specific opportunities.

Every Premier League club has obligations with rights holders. It is part of our strategy to go above and beyond, to do more to assist those who provide us with coverage all over the world. We also want to maintain access for non-rights holders, including newspapers, magazines, and international media.

Our Football Media Executive will efficiently and effectively deliver planned media sessions and create opportunities from scratch in line with the Club’s strategies. They are comfortable dealing with TV presenters, leading journalists from around the world as well as Premier League footballers. They understand media trends and be able to identify opportunities, particularly in new media areas.

They will liaise with the Premier League and its broadcast partners regarding contractual obligations. They will also arrange opportunities for non-rights holders when it is right to do so.

The Football Media Executive will have a knowledge of and the ability to deliver the Club’s strategies, ensuring priority is given to rights holders. They will also be aware of the football media landscape and the ability to help make the most of all media opportunities.

They will assist with the logistics of the media operation, including matchday media accreditation and ensuring access for media and personnel to all Club premises when needed. They will also assist with accreditation for women’s team, B Team or Academy matches as needed, especially those at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Main Accountabilities

  • Be part of delivering the Premier League’s contractual broadcast requirements, including assisting with the logistics of sessions, and non-contractual media work.
  • Be available to work First Team matchdays home and away.
  • Be available to travel overseas and stay away from home when required to assist with the club’s media priorities, particularly pre-season trips.
  • Brief players and staff ahead of interviews and report back.
  • Promote club content to wider market, using Premier League relationships.
  • Monitor breaking news stories and continuing narratives surrounding the club.
  • Maintain existing relationships with the media and bring in new contacts to enable wider story telling.
  • Assist with media support for B team, academy and women’s sides if needed.
  • Assist with incoming ad hoc media requests and filter to appropriate staff.
  • Assist with media accreditation process for home matches, ensuring the Club’s commitments to rights holders and non-rights holders are met.
  • Be part of the matchday media access operation.
  • Liaise with clubs we are visiting to ensure Brentford FC staff have what they need to work at away matches.

Person Specification - Essential Characteristics

  • Demonstrable experience working in a communications environment at a professional sports organisation, ideally professional football.
  • Media qualifications including media law or multiple years of experience working in a press office environment.
  • Full driving licence and own car.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Understanding of the media landscape, particularly in England.
  • Excellent written and spoken English language skills.
  • Experience of working within a team.
  • Ability to show initiative and comfortable in being decisive when working alone.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, pressurised environment, show initiative and in being decisive when working alone and experience as part of a team.
  • Ability to think creatively and to clearly communicate ideas and concepts.
  • Confident in forging new relationships with others.
  • Strong knowledge of football and the Premier League, particularly the media narrative and broadcast contracts.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work matchdays, including evenings and weekends.

Person Specification – Desirable Characteristics
