Title: Baseball Technology Operator

Department: Baseball Operations

Locations: MULTIPLE CITIES + REMOTE. St. Petersburg, FL; Durham, NC; Montgomery, AL; Bowling Green, KY; Charleston, SC; Port Charlotte, FL. We are hiring both local and remote Baseball Technology Operators.

Reports to: Coordinator, Baseball Operations

Description: The Tampa Bay Rays are seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented candidates for our part-time affiliate Baseball Technology Operator positions. These individuals will be responsible for running one of the TrackMan, KinaTrax, and Hawkeye systems for the Rays’ major league or affiliate home games. The number of games each Operator works varies by week based on availability and the season schedule. Given the part-time nature of this role, it has been a great fit for (but not limited to) both students and individuals with a 9-to-5 type job who want to spend additional time watching baseball. This position is available to both in-person and remote candidates.

The typical day-in-the-life of this role requires arriving (if in person) or checking in (remote) half an hour before the first pitch and ensuring all systems are properly set up for the game. You’ll log and monitor the full game until the final out. For remotely-tracked games, there is post-game data processing work involved that generally takes fifteen minutes.

Our Technology Operators will start as soon as possible coinciding with the affiliate season with a built-in time for onboarding to learn any necessary technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for setting up rosters and accurately tagging information.
  • Log entire games – monitor the system to ensure smooth operations, document changes (defensive substitutions, roster changes, etc).
  • Assisting in troubleshooting any system issues with TrackMan, KinaTrax, Hawkeye, fixing any errors, and uploading the game to the appropriate sites.
  • Other reasonable and related duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:

  • This role requires above-par attention to detail, strong time management, and organization skills.
  • You will be watching baseball, and following every single pitch, play, move, and substitution. If your gut reaction was ‘amazing, I get paid for that?’ then please continue! An understanding of gameplay and rules is required.
  • Sometimes things break. Demonstrated patience and the ability to troubleshoot are key.
  • Experience utilizing TrackMan, KinaTrax, and Hawkeye software is not required; we will teach you what you need to know. If you already have a background in these technologies, it will expedite your onboarding process.

All offers are contingent on a satisfactory background check.

We are an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, gender identity, marital or veteran status, or any other protected class.
