Description
The Tampa Bay Rays are seeking an Amateur Scouting Intern for 2025. We welcome applicants from a variety of academic, professional, and athletic backgrounds. This position supports day-to-day operations of the Amateur Scouting department as we prepare for the 2025 Rule 4 Draft. In addition to building work experience in Amateur Scouting, our goal is to develop the individual with knowledge and skills necessary to positively impact a Baseball Operations department. We will facilitate this development through exploration of external resources, targeted projects, and exposure to a diverse group of staff members. While responsibilities to the Amateur Scouting department come first, a small portion of this job will be devoted to assisting general Baseball Operations on various assignments throughout the year.

Responsibilities and Goals

  • Learn fundamental baseball concepts relevant to amateur player evaluation and development through exposure to relevant staff and processes
  • Maintain prospect video coverage throughout the spring by organizing, uploading, and occasionally editing video from several sources
  • Support full amateur office staff with managing, organizing, and analyzing all information surrounding amateur talent evaluation
  • Support full amateur office staff with all draft prep, including draft meetings and logistics surrounding post-draft signings
  • Attend and scout local amateur games/events as needed
  • Assist with various Baseball Operations projects and assignments outside of Amateur Scouting as requested by relevant staff throughout the year
  • Participate actively in our internship development program – a program which consists of completing projects and presentations with the goal of better understanding each sub-department of Baseball Operations

Qualifications

  • Domain knowledge of, or strong desire to learn, Amateur Scouting, Rule 4 Draft guidelines, the high school/college events schedule, and the 2025 draft class
  • Previous experience evaluating amateur talent through formalized work or independent projects/exploration preferred but not required
  • Proficiency in Excel; SQL & R Studio programming experience preferred
  • Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining professionalism at all times
  • Ability to work non-traditional and flexible hours per the Amateur Scouting/Rule 4 Draft schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

*Exact start and end date is relatively flexible and can be discussed further to see if adjustments can be made. This is an on-site internship at Tropicana Field in Saint Petersburg, FL.*
