The Latin America Medical Coordinator will guide, supervise, and coordinate the on-site athletic training efforts at the Latin American academies in cooperation with and under the guidance of the organizational player development leadership (domestic and international), Minor League Medical Coordinator, and team doctors. In addition, the Latin America Medical Coordinator will be available, as needed, to provide assistance and support to the Minor League Rehabilitation Coordinator. This role will have ownership on a set of responsibilities and assist as needed on the coordination of in-season and off-season coverage supporting US-based or Latin American-based initiatives, including influence on our Venezuelan operations. The Latin America Medical Coordinator will be based at our facility in the Dominican Republic with travel back to the US as needed. Other duties will occur in Port Charlotte, FL, to assist with activities at the player development complex during the off-season.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent player care in the pursuit of prevention, evaluation, care, and treatment of athletic injuries.
  • Assist in leadership of academy-based athletic trainers in the administration and maintenance of the athletic training room.
  • Supervise daily activities of athletic trainers at academy location(s).
  • Upkeep daily records relating to injuries per guidelines of Major League Baseball’s electronic medical records system and high standards of the Tampa Bay Rays organization.
  • Facilitate regular communication with appropriate stakeholders pertaining to injury related and player availability updates.
  • Maintain daily communication with field staff and appropriate front office personnel.
  • Collaborate with adjacent departments, including Strength & Conditioning and Performance Science, to optimize player care, recovery, and performance.
  • Coordinate with the Director of International Operations and Academy athletic training staff with scheduling pre-participation physicals for tryout players and potential new players.
  • Assist in maintaining Florida-based physician network and coverage and expanding Physician network as needed to meet rehab needs and requirements in Latin America.
  • Support player and staff access to mental health and wellness resources.


Skills/Qualifications:

  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification.
  • Florida Athletic Trainer License.
  • CPR and AED Certifications.
  • Understanding of Major League Baseball Electronic Medical Record System (Athlete RMS).
  • Ability to organize a group toward a common goal.
  • Communication skills that create clarity and alignment.
