Sheffield United Women are looking for an experienced Physiotherapist to provide medical services to SUFC Women's Academy squads with a particular focus on Under 21's and Under 16's. The role will oversee the therapy services provided to all players, providing rehabilitation, medical clinics and pitch side cover for training and match days, as well as medical screening, and clinical governance.


Role Responsibilities:

  • To assist with the development, and delivery of the Club's medical support strategy relating to the Academy programme, providing high quality medical provision to all academy players.
  • To work as part of an integrated and progressive performance team including physiotherapy, sports science etc.
  • To optimize player physical development, performance and agility.
  • Ensure appropriate injury mitigation and player care strategies are adopted, including but not limited to: screening, testing, player and squad intervention, player and coach education and growth-maturation based interventions.
  • To work as part of the Academy MDT and liaise with players (and parents when necessary) to ensure complete medical services are provided to the elite standards.
  • To work with the academy performance team to implement the appropriate rehabilitation and re-conditioning of injured players to allow safe and effective return to play.
  • To lead on all medical/health related matters relating to all academy players.
  • To lead on the development, organisation and implementation of treatment and rehabilitation programs and protocols for all academy players.
  • To oversee the upkeep, maintenance and audit of all academy medical records for all Academy players.
  • Provide pitch side medical cover for all Under 21's fixtures, home and away. As well as ad-hoc youth academy fixtures.
  • Oversee the Academy medical rota, ensure all academy fixtures are covered from a medical perspective.
  • To provide regular updates to the Academy Manager and 1st Team Physiotherapist relating to medical issues.
  • Liaise daily with other Academy physiotherapist, sports scientist and coaches to ensure effective communication between departments.
  • Undertake personal CPD to meet the demands of the role.
  • Ensure medical equipment is at the required level and standard, up to date and in line with the clubs and governing bodies requirement.

Essential Criteria for the Role:

  • BSc Physiotherapy/Sports Therapist or equivalent degree
  • Current registration with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) or Society of Sports Therapist (SST)
  • Current registration with the HCPC (Physiotherapy) or SST (Society of Sports Therapists)
  • In possession of an up to date Advanced Emergency Aid Qualification; this should be the Level 5 ATMiFF.
  • Be a UKAD Clean Sport Advisor
  • Prior experience of pitch-side duties
  • Prior clinical experience in the musculoskeletal setting including the use of contemporary methods of injury management and functional rehabilitation as part of return to play pathway.
