Job Description:

Summary:

The Public Event Operations Director, reporting to the Senior Event Operations Director, is responsible for maximizing revenue and efficiency of all public non Mets Games events (soccer matches, concerts, festivals, races, etc ) while providing an exceptional fan experience and execution of major events operations. The role has management and/or collaboration responsibility for all elements and personnel associated with the operations of events and activities taking place at Citi Field.

Essential Duties & Functions:

  • Oversees the operation of public non-gameday events at Citi Field (soccer matches, concerts, festivals, races, etc.) from point of announce/on sale to the completion of the event.

  • Ensure that client and promoter relationships are maintained at a high standard throughout the execution phase including:

    • Responses to emails/calls/site visits are received in a timely manner

    • Client needs are addressed

    • Best practices, rules and regulations are enforced and communicated

    • Client entertainment/gift initiatives are put into place and fulfilled

  • Ensure that internal departments (Security, Cleaning, Ballpark Ops, Guest Experience, IT, Hospitality, Aramark, Parking, Medical, Merchandise, Purchasing, Ballpark Ops, IT, Marketing, Ticketing, Proudctions, etc.) receive all needed information to operate Citi Field public events and we are operating events consistently with best practices in mind.

  • Project manage all large public non-gameday events with the public operation team including:

    • Creating staffing plans

    • Developing standard operating practices

    • Creating meeting agendas

    • Creating event checklists and assigning leads and deadlines

    • Leading weekly meeting

  • Manage, train, and onboard new and existing employees within the department and make sure the team is set-up for continued success and growth.

  • Work closely with the Mets Events leadership team on communication with external partners (MTA, Mayors Office, NYPD, FDNY, etc.).

  • Balance event budgets and P&L’s to ensure all events are trending towards desired profit margins and that staffing plans put into place by the operations team follow best practices and maximize revenue.

  • Continuous evaluation of events with client/promoter, internal, and external stakeholders and implementing next step for noted areas of improvement.

  • Lead the renewal sales process for annual public event sales with guest counts under 10k.

  • Assist the Director, Public Event Sales in the process of vetting and bidding for potential future events.

  • Oversight of the two event part-time staffs ran by Mets Events (Event Crew and Event Concierge).

  • Provide support to the private event operations team when needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

  • 7+ years of public event operation experience. Preferably with a multi-use venue. Applicants with concert operations experience take precedence.

  • 2+ years of experience managing direct reports.

  • Strong understanding of both front of house and back of house operations to produce large scale events.

  • Experience with permitting and CADS required.

  • Must be able to work to the end of events throughout the year as required (nights, weekends, and Holidays).

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

  • Attention to detail and excellent resolution skills.
