Job Description:

Summary:

The Director of Mental Performance is responsible for day-to-day implementation of mental performance practices and initiatives with the Major League Baseball team as well as overseeing the growth and development of the mental performance system and staff across the New York Mets organization. This person will set the short and long-term vision and strategy for our Mental Performance initiatives across the organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee a mental performance enhancement system designed to create a growth-minded performance environment and maximize the mental performance abilities of New York Mets players across the organization.

  • Serve as the Mental Performance Coach for the Major League Baseball team, overseeing the daily and long-term mental performance preparation for 40-man roster players.

  • Collaborate with the Front Office, Field Staff, and Performance Staff on Major League player development initiatives.

  • Develop and deliver engaging mental performance training and education based on team and individual player needs, including comprehensive assessments and programming.

  • Develop and deliver rehab and recovery programs to support players as they return to play.

  • Routinely collaborate with Player Development and Performance departments to develop solutions that positively impact the performance of New York Mets players.

  • Provide assessments of team and individual player mindset and behavioral patterns for the purpose of providing targeted mindset development plans and player development plans.

  • Collaborate with leadership to continually progress our mental skills and education efforts to prepare players for the Major League.

  • Develop and oversee strong processes to facilitate required referrals to Mental Health Coordinator and EAPs.

  • Manage existing Mental Performance Coaches, and continue to recruit, onboard, and integrate key mental performance roles into the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field.

  • Post-graduate degree in Sport Psychology or Cognitive Science is preferred.

  • Certified as a CMPC or Certified Mental Performance Consultant

  • 5+ years of full-time experience in a similar role working with elite athletes.

  • Demonstrated history of strong leadership and management skills.

  • Experience conducting mental performance workshops with large groups, teams, and individual players.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Up to date knowledge of latest trends and leading practices in sport psychology and high-performance sport.

  • A positive personality with a passion for assisting others in achieving their goals.

  • Previous baseball experience is preferred.

  • Ability to speak Spanish is preferred.

  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.

  • Must be able to work unconventional hours.

  • Certification as a CMPC (Certified Mental Performance Consultant).
