Position Summary

The Vice President of Venue Planning & Development will oversee venue operations and provide real estate development expertise to ensure that our facilities and venues adhere to the expectations and standards established by the NBA to support our games and tentpole events.

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead NBA venue project progress and deliverables while providing oversight, insight, and advisement on new and renovated arenas. Work with key external stakeholders including architects, engineers, owner representatives, construction management companies and consultants. Provide counsel in the selection of development partners, including participation in the interview process and bid review, as well as recommendations for project teams and structure of agreements and contracts.
  • Direct teams on the end-to-end Venue development cycle. Monitor project progress with respect to schedule and procedures and implement actions necessary to maintain or improve, as possible. Participate in the review of proposed drawings, advise on solutions, author reports, provide executive leadership and conduct on-site surveys, as needed.
  • Advise on the development, execution and operations of NBA-related international venues and consult on best practices and efficiencies for other NBA affiliate league Venues, including the WNBA and G-League.
  • Prepare, lead, and represent the department at an executive and C-Suite level across all areas of venue planning and development. This includes coordination, preparation, and presentation of venue relocations, innovation analysis, venue operations and league-wide business planning processes.
  • Oversee and participate in the advancement and implementation of NBA Venue initiatives including, but not limited to, the NBA Arena Standards, the Venue Environmental Support System, and operational site surveys as well as near-term and long-term arena guidelines impacting all NBA games and events, including policies and procedures regarding critical building systems and game-time preparedness.
  • Develop processes and establish protocols to ensure NBA venues are in compliance with strategic operational and development guidelines as well as maintain validated methodology and concise quantitative data collection and analysis for arena operations matters.
  • Manage and set expectations for a team of venue department colleagues while also establishing a working protocol with internal and external league stakeholders and, consultant resources necessary to achieve the department and league objectives.
  • Provide Executive level leadership and support for venue-related crisis management plans and responses.
  • When appropriate, participate the analysis and assist with the determination of the viability of facilities - both domestic and international – in order to establish eligibility to host non-traditional neutral site games and NBA Global Games.
  • As needed, serve as an on-site facilities representative for marquee NBA events including All Star Weekend, NBA Finals and NBA Global Games providing event support, venue expertise and internal/external coordination to ensure that venues adhere to NBA facility requirements.

Required Education/Professional Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Construction/Project Management, Real Estate Development, or a related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of increasing leadership experience in venue (arena, stadium, etc.) operations/development, or related fields.

Required Skills/Knowledge Attributes

  • A proven track record of providing successful senior-level project management and/or owner representative leadership on arena, stadium or other related venue related projects
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and cultivate relationships, and present business requirements and outcomes to C-Suite leaders.
  • Strong proficiency in project/people management skills across specialized fields including; architects, engineers, contractors, and venue operators.

Salary Range: $250,000 - $270,000
