This position is part of a growing Digital Growth team with the mission to discover, inspire and engage fans worldwide. The Paid Media Strategy Team Lead, Acquisition will oversee media strategy and planning globally for NBA League Pass and other Direct to Consumer (DTC) initiatives. You will be responsible for acquiring new customers by managing and scaling existing channels (paid social, display, search, OLV, etc.) while expanding and testing into new channels to build a foundation for growth. You are extremely comfortable working with data to extract insights and develop practical optimizations and strategies to deploy. This includes experience with optimizing a multi-touch attribution model across digital channels and building and enhancing subscriber growth forecasting models. You should have experience managing an in-house media team and an extensive paid marketing budget to drive direct response marketing.

  • Own paid marketing initiatives to drive global subscriptions for League Pass and other DTC products by using business/team goals, historical performance, and testing to guide paid media strategy across all paid channels.
  • Work with leadership to set full-funnel channel strategy and budgets to support company growth and achieve CAC goals.
  • Proactively make agency-style media and spend allocation recommendations based on performance trends and shifting priorities.
  • Manage and reconcile a multi-million dollar performance budget and manage effectively to CAC and related critical metrics
  • Build positive relationships with 3P vendors by attending regular meetings and advocating for innovation and growth.
  • Lead a small team of in-house media buyers and channel managers across all paid performance channels and provide effective leadership and delegation.
  • Coach and provide feedback to team members on reporting insights and positioning to shape fact-based narrative using executive summary style business writing
  • Partner with international markets to share performance results and build localized programs that fit regional needs
  • Analyze media performance in real-time to inform optimization strategies and report the rationale for campaign pivots to leadership.
  • Work closely with the Data Analytics team to further optimize CPA and LTV and refine attribution models.
  • Provide strong perspective to creative agency to build best-in-class, performance-driven ad suite, and robust learning agenda for every campaign and channel.
  • Translate business needs into a solid marketing test roadmap focusing on incremental, creative testing and data loss prevention.
  • Work with Martech to brainstorm solutions for privacy restrictions in a cookie-less media landscape.
  • Effectively analyze results of initiatives, then use those findings to influence future strategies and report performance to executive leadership.
  • Apply strong follow-up skills with direct manager and leadership for new developments from cross-functional partners and others around the League.
  • Intake critical requests, effectively delegate to the team, and deliver requests promptly.
  • Ensure a consistent information-sharing loop with leadership, team members, and cross-functional partners to deliver streamlined workflow efficiency.

  • 8-10+ years of performance marketing experience with a strong focus on paid search, paid social, and programmatic. CTV experience is plus.
  • Agency or in-house buying experience required. Subscription-based experience is preferred.
  • Past or current hands-on (“hands-on-keyboard”) experience launching campaigns across Search and Social is required.
  • Managerial experience is required. Managing a team of 2 members or more is preferred.
  • Experience owning and scaling a multi-million dollar media budget with a proven track record to drive growth while managing CAC target
  • Experience with core media buying platforms and very comfortable using analytics tools, comfortable diving into execution and analysis when needed.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to deliver high-quality written and verbal content
  • Strong business acumen with a concise and organized communication style and advanced functional knowledge of Excel and other analytical tools (i.e., Tableau)
  • Data-driven, analytical problem solver who is comfortable diving into data and pulling insights
  • Experience building and improving customer forecasting models
  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous, fast-paced setting without ready-made processes
  • Comfortable with compiling presentations and addressing executive and senior leadership as well as large cross-functional forums
  • Collaboration skills, ability to work effectively within a matrixed organization to influence and drive results with key business partners.

Salary Range: $177,500 - $190,000
