Purpose of the Job
This role will be responsible for assisting the Head Coach of Houston Dynamo FC of Major League Soccer.
Duties and responsibilities
1) On Field Coaching
- Attend all First Team training sessions
- Assist Head Coach with individual and group instruction
2) Training Session Development
- Attend all daily meetings of first team coaching staff
- Assist with design and implementation of training sessions to teach our game model with input from the following:
- Review video of training sessions on a daily basis
3) Set Pieces
- Plan attacking and defending set pieces for each opponent
- Train attacking and defending set pieces
- Manage attacking and defending set pieces in game
4) Game Evaluation
- Review Previous Team game; and
- Provide player ratings for all First Team games
5) Coordinate integration of High Potential Players into First Team plans
- Attend weekly meetings with Executive Staff to discuss high potential players
- Coordinate daily player movement between first team and MLS NEXT Pro training sessions
- Discuss high potential player performance in first team training and MLS NEXT Pro games
- Work with Academy Director, General Manager, Technical Director, Assistant General Manager and Academy Director on development plans for high potential players
- Identify and recommend opportunities for high potential players to participate in first team matches in preseason, regular season and other competitions
6) MLS NEXT Pro Games
- Attend monthly meetings to discuss high potential players in the club, including MLS NEXT Pro and MLS NEXT teams
- Attend home MLS NEXT Pro Games as requested by the Head Coach, Technical Director and/or General Manager
7) Player Recruitment
- Assist Head Coach and Technical Director in supervision and coordination of the recruiting process
- Acquire information on player of interest when asked by Head Coach or Technical Director
- Assist the Head Coach and Technical Director in review video and data of players of interest
8) Game Administration:
- Help in preparing and presenting opponent scouting, game model and pre-game meetings
- Gather information from players and give input related to travel, pre-game meals, and lodging
9) Administrative
- Maintain day to day integrity of the program
10) Pre-Season
- Coordinate with staff (pre-season)
- Participate in pre-season meeting scheduling
- Assist in training schedule
11) Community
- Interact with local soccer community
- Make public appearances and participate in promotional and sponsorship activities on behalf of the Team (and its sponsors) as are reasonable in light of Employee’s position as Assistant Coach without additional compensation
- Involve players with community outreach activities
12) Video Analysis
- Use video to analyze training and matches
- Prepare individual game and training video edits under the direction of the Head Coach
13) Other Duties
- Performing such other duties consistent with the employment as Assistant Coach that may from time to time be reasonably determined as assigned to Employee by the Head Coach, Technical Director and/or General Manager
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- 5 or more years of professional coaching experience.
- 10 or more years of experience in a high-performance environment.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Products: Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.
- Able to travel and work irregular hours as dictated by event schedules and project timetables.
- Able to work nights, weekends, and Holidays.
- Minimum U.S. Soccer Federation A License or Equivalent
- Bilingual: English/Spanish – Preferred
