Fulham Football Club Academy are excited to offer one UEFA B qualified coach the opportunity to undertake a voluntary part time placement within the Academy as part of the FA Club Placement programme.

The Academy’s mission is to support ‘every individual to fulfil their potential’.

Within this placement we have an outstanding opportunity to expose one individual to the full Academy coaching experience. Our belief is that learning, and development, happen through experiences, and we are therefore looking to design a unique placement experience that supports the successful individual to fulfil their potential as a coach.

The FA’s statement about the programme

At the top levels of both the men's and women's game, coaches from Black, Asian, minority ethnic backgrounds and females, continue to be significantly underrepresented within key positions.

The FA is committed to changing that. The is FA’s looking to develop more opportunities for coaches from Black, Asian, minority ethnic backgrounds and females to get essential experience to challenge for coaching and technical roles in football.

As part of our Coach Inclusion and Diversity Plan, we've partnered with a group professional clubs in our ‘Club Placement Programme’ for the 2023/24 season. This initiative offers 19 exciting Academy placement opportunities for coaches from historically underrepresented backgrounds.

The successful candidates will take on a part-time volunteer role within a club’s category 1, 2 or 3 academy, and through a carefully structured programme of learning and development opportunities they will gain invaluable experience and exposure within a professional environment.

Application criteria

  • Male applicants of Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic origin who are aged 18 years or older
  • Female applicants (of any ethnic origin) who are aged 18 years or older
  • UEFA B Licence holders
  • FA Youth Module 1, 2 and 3 holders
  • Or holders of the current Level 2/UEFA C (block 1 and 2)
  • FA Safeguarding and FA First Aid Qualifications
  • FA licensed coach membership

The successful applicant will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

The role

The successful candidate will:

  • Gain an understanding of the coaching programme across the Academy pathway.
  • Support the delivery of coaching that aligns to the Academy strategy and mission, in support of the development of individual Academy players.
  • Gain an understanding of systematic planning, delivery and reviewing processes within the Academy, including Seasonal planning, Individual Player Development planning and Individual Player & Parent reviews.
  • Have the opportunity to analyse and develop player performance through video.
  • Gain invaluable experience of Talent ID and Recruitment processes within the Academy system.
  • Gain an understanding of Insights; viewing statistical reports and synthesising the information to inform training or game approaches.
  • Get first-hand experience of working within a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) within a Category 1 environment.
  • Have the opportunity to attend internal MDT, Coaching Department and whole Academy meetings and CPD events.
  • Gain an understanding and knowledge of the Premier League Youth Development Rules.
  • Gain an understanding of Club policies and procedures relating to coaching and player development activities.

Role benefits & structure:

  • Candidates will attend activity on evenings and weekends at least twice per week.
  • All travel expenses will be covered by the Club.
  • Full training kit and equipment will be provided.
  • Personal development opportunities will exist across the placement, including on-going support from an internal ‘Coaching Mentor’.
