The Manager of Social Media will work with the Director of Social Media to manage all aspects of Hornets Sports & Entertainment’s (Charlotte Hornets, Spectrum Center, other ancillary accounts) social media platforms, while helping develop the strategy and content associated with each platform. The ideal candidate will be able to develop new, unique and engaging daily and long-term content across the organization’s social platforms with the goal of growing the team’s followers, engagements, video views, and impressions. This candidate must also be capable of effectively supporting, guiding and managing a Coordinator of Social Media.

The candidate must have a strong understanding of current social media and pop culture trends. The candidate must be comfortable (1) using social media analytics to inform content strategy, and (2) developing strategy to meet various organizational goals (e.g., social engagement, ticket sales, retail sales, partnership value, community engagement, tagline campaigns, uniform unveils, etc.). This person must also be comfortable with working with the Digital Strategy, Manager to use learnings to evolve and expand upon HSE’s social media guidelines and to create strategies to reach specific target demographics. The ability to work across various departments within the organization, such as Corporate Social Responsibility, Ticket Sales, and Corporate Partnerships, to assist in company-wide initiatives is a must.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage, create and publish day-to-day Hornets social media content on Facebook, X, Instagram, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn and Weibo, with a special emphasis on vertical video content and platform-specific content for X/Twitter.
  • Manage and lead Storyteller strategy and execution
  • Manage the Coordinator of Social Media; this includes providing consistent support, encouragement and guidance, assigning duties, performance review discussions, providing constructive and positive feedback, managing time sheets and more
  • Implement and develop strategies to grow HSE’s social media followers, engagements, video views and impressions across all properties (Hornets, Spectrum Center, other ancillary accounts)
  • Assist in the creation of the digital media department’s content plan
  • Cover practices, shootarounds, CSR events, partnership events and more, capturing vertical video and/or photo content
  • Work with entire digital team to develop timely content relevant to current trends in social media and pop culture
  • Assist in keeping Social Media Guidelines up-to-date – adding, changing, and removing these guidelines as necessary. This includes both content strategy guidelines and social voice/tone guidelines.
  • Consistently use the social voice and tone of the organization to effectively communicate with fans, respond to inquiries, build relationships, and join in relevant online conversations
  • Assist in maintaining the social media content calendar in Workfront, helping to add pieces of content and events, as well as convert Issues to Projects
  • Assist in overall organization of content calendar, communication of that calendar, and assigning of gameday duties
  • Assist in tagging of social media content in Sprout Social for analysis and measurement
  • Lead influencer marketing campaigns to drive business goals and social media audience growth
  • Foster strong working relationships with numerous internal departments in an effort to properly message certain initiatives to social followers
  • Establish and foster external relationships with vendors (Tagger, Sprout, Storyteller) and influencers
  • Represent the social media team in meetings with internal departments and report key takeaways to the Director
  • Other duties as assigned by department director

Required Skills, Experience, and Abilities

(To perform the job successfully, the candidate should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this job.)

  • Minimum of 2-3 years social media experience in a professional role
  • Ability to develop various forms of content across different platforms
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of people and develop strong relationships
  • Able to multi-task under time constraints, meet deadlines and work within a fast-paced industry/environment
  • Must be well organized, detail-oriented and demonstrate an ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision
  • Experience in the Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Excellent communications skills – both written and verbal
  • A self-starter who is resourceful and is a team player
  • Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, holidays
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in social media, journalism, English, public relations, or related field
