Data Analyst

Reporting to the VP, Analytics & Technology, the Data Analyst will be responsible for using large data sets to find opportunities and solve challenging business problems.

What to be excited for in this role:

  • Develop business intelligence dashboards, reports, data analyses, and tools aimed at enhancing the organization’s revenue, operational, and financial performance by collaborating with key internal stakeholders from across the organization.

  • Perform exploratory data analysis to support key decisions with critical data insights by writing advanced SQL queries to extract data from internal databases.

  • Create data visualizations that enhance end-user understanding.

  • Build statistical models based on internal and external data to support attendance forecasting, operational planning, dynamic ticket pricing, evaluate new ticketing models, and develop fan segmentation.

  • Conduct data wrangling to transform raw data from disparate data sources into clean, structured data prepped for analytical use.

  • Partner with StellarAlgo, IT, and other strategic data partners to develop automated pipelines, maintain and improve True North’s data warehouse, and ensure data accuracy and integrity.

  • Provide support to data tool users.

  • Build strong relationships with internal cross-functioning stakeholders, NHL contacts, industry peers, and external data partners.

  • Ensuring effective communication of user requirements and setting expectations to internal clients.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What we need from you:

  • 2+ years’ experience in data analytics, data science, business intelligence or other related fields.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in math, engineering, computer science, management, or statistics.

  • Sports Management MBA, or experience in an analytical role within the sports industry is an asset.

  • Strong knowledge of SQL with the ability to write advanced queries.

  • Prior experience in data visualization tools (Microsoft Power BI is preferred).

  • Prior experience in Python, R, or similar statistical programming languages.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.

  • Strong understanding of relational databases and data structures.

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Intermediate knowledge of regression, machine learning, and other statistical modeling methods.

  • Prior experience with cloud database technologies (i.e. AWS, Azure) and data transfer technologies (i.e. REST API, SFTP).

  • Proven abilities to take initiative and be innovative, with an analytical mind and problem-solving aptitude.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with style fitting for the audience and message.

  • Thirst to learn, be proactive in your own learning and development.

  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, innovative, and rapidly evolving industry and business organization.

  • Knowledge and experience working in the Sports & Entertainment industry is an asset.
