POSITION TYPE: Part Time, Non-Exempt, Seasonal (through April 2025)

REPORTS TO: Senior Manager, Sharks Foundation

Pay Range: The pay for this role is $20 per hour

Actual base pay will be determined based on permissible factors such as transferable skills, work experience, market demands and primary work location. The base pay range provided is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

Position Overview

Established in 1994, the Sharks Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the lives of youth and families in the community with an emphasis in the areas of education, health and safety, and character development. Since inception, the Sharks Foundation has positively impacted the lives of individuals in the community through its contributions to local non-profit organizations. The Sharks Foundation Assistant - Marketing will manage all of the Sharks Foundation’s communications and marketing efforts, and SJSCommunity social media channels. The candidate needs to be a skilled writer with knowledge of AP Style writing and editing, reliable, organized, and creative. The candidate needs to have a flexible schedule, be willing to work non-traditional hours, and available for all Foundation events and fundraisers and some Sharks home games. The position will dedicate 30 hours (max) per week to the Foundation for the duration of the San Jose Sharks regular hockey season (September 2024-April 2025; approximately eight months). An extension will be available if needed for post-season duties, playoff responsibilities, and/or wrapping up projects.

Communications & Social Media: The role will oversee all Sharks Foundation social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn) which will require thoughtful content planning and attendance at Foundation fund-giving/raising events to post real-time content. The candidate will work in tandem with the Sharks Director of Public Relations (PR) to oversee all Foundation PR efforts. Additional projects include creation of the Foundation monthly newsletter, submitting copy points and graphics, working with the Sharks Website team to ensure SharksFoundation.org is consistently updated, collaborating with the Sharks Creative team to produce info/other graphics, and leading the creation of the Community Annual Report and season recap video.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage all Sharks Foundation communications and marketing efforts (80% of job responsibilities)

  • Attend all Sharks Foundation events and signature fundraisers to capture photos and post real-time content via social
  • Develop monthly content plans and create content and post across @SJSCommunity social media platforms (X, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn)
  • Work with Sharks Social to schedule Foundation posts/information, news, and promotions via @SJSharks social channels
  • Work with the Foundation’s selected non-profit beneficiaries to ensure marketing strategies, fan and donor communication across social media platforms are aligned
  • Work in tandem with Sharks Director of Public Relations to create press releases/media alerts for Foundation activities
  • Create and distribute the Sharks Foundation monthly newsletter via Constant Contact
  • Generate and submit copy points and graphics for the Sharks Audio Network, TV, and in-game scoreboard advertisements
  • Write recap articles for each Sharks Foundation monthly campaign highlighting fundraising and giving efforts, and showcasing parentships with our team sponsors
  • Work with the Sharks Website team to ensure SharksFoundation.org is consistently updated
  • Work with Sharks Creative team to produce monthly infographics and other creative needed for social and print
  • Collaborate with Sharks Creative team to create Community Annual Report
  • Work with SJ Sharks Productions on the creation of the Community Season Review recap video

Sharks Foundation administration tasks (20% of job responsibilities)

  • Staff the Sharks Foundation Booth on the SAP Center Concourse for games where there is a dedicated fundraiser (ex: Mystery Puck sales) and other Sharks home games when needed
  • Assist with the set-up and breakdown of team signings (5-6 per season)
  • Assist Foundation staff in general day-to-day operations including but not limited to: mailing, taking inventory, creating signage, updating spreadsheets, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university - Journalism, Mass Communication and/or Marketing strongly preferred
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and events as business dictates
  • Extremely strong writing, editing and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and juggle numerous priorities and projects and meet deadlines without sacrificing effectiveness/quality of work
  • Exceptional time management, problem solving, troubleshooting, organizational and people skills; independent and strategic thinker
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and Microsoft Teams - willingness to learn new operating systems and technology as it is released
  • Knowledge of Constant Contact and Workfront preferred
  • Show the utmost professionalism when working with athletes, alumni and other VIPs
  • A strong advocate for process
  • Strong work ethic and high level of integrity

Physical Requirements

  • to sit, stand and utilize a computer for extended periods of time

  • navigate stairs and catwalks at SSE facilities during normal work hours and events with or without accommodation
