Associate, Biomechanics – Port St. Lucie

Job Description:

Summary:

The New York Mets are seeking a Biomechanics Associate to aid in the execution and operation of the biomechanics lab at the Mets’ Florida complex. The Biomechanics Associate will also be responsible for operating an in-game motion capture system for each St. Lucie Mets home game. This position will work closely alongside the Biomechanist and Biomechanics Engineer. The ideal candidate has worked in a clinical, elite sport, or industrial biomechanics lab with a track record of positively impacting human performance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Aid in the execution, operation, and maintenance of the biomechanics lab at the Mets’ Florida complex.

  • Track and process motion capture data and other pertinent data sources.

  • Operate in-game motion capture system during each St. Lucie Mets home game.

  • Prepare biomechanical reports in conjunction with Sports Science staff members to help coaches and players maximize performance and availability.

  • Aid in the design and execution of research studies to innovate novel biomechanics concepts and data visualization techniques.

Qualifications:

  • B.A./M.S./D.P.T. in Biomechanics, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Exercise Science, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.

  • Previous experience working in a clinical, elite sport, or industrial biomechanics lab, consisting of marker-based motion capture equipment, force plates, and EMG.

  • Previous experience working with athletes and coaches to effectively communicate biomechanics data and principles.

  • Previous experience working with and contributing to internally developed software in MATLAB, C, R, Python, or another similar programming language.

  • Previous experience publishing peer-reviewed research articles.

  • Previous experience with experimental study design and statistical analysis.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills (graphical, written, and verbal).

  • Previous experience with applying holistic datasets to decisions that optimize human performance (including range-of-motion, strength, speed, and workload information).

  • Previous experience collecting and analyzing data from wearable technologies is a plus (IMU, GPS, HR, etc.).
