Job Description:
Summary:
The New York Mets are seeking a Biomechanics Associate to assist in biomechanics-related initiatives in hitting, pitching, and performance. The Biomechanics Associate will also be responsible for operating an in-game motion capture system for each New York Mets home game. This position will work closely alongside the Biomechanics Engineer and Performance Technology staff. The ideal candidate has worked in a clinical, elite sport, or industrial biomechanics lab with a track record of positively impacting human performance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist in developing biomechanics algorithms applied to baseball pitching, hitting, and performance assessments using motion capture, force plates, and wearables data.
Assist in developing musculoskeletal and fatigue models from in-game and lab data to understand player workload.
Operate in-game motion capture system during each New York Mets home game.
Design and prepare biomechanical reports that are distributed to coaching and performance staff.
Aid in the design and execution of research studies to innovate novel biomechanics concepts and data visualization techniques.
Work closely with the Performance Technology, Analytics, Scouting, and Performance departments to apply biomechanics principles.
Qualifications:
B.S./M.S. in Biomechanics, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
Previous experience working in a clinical, elite sport, or industrial biomechanics lab, consisting of marker-based motion capture equipment, force plates, and EMG.
Previous experience working with and contributing to internally developed software in MATLAB, C, R, Python, or another similar programming language.
Previous experience publishing peer-reviewed research articles.
Previous experience with experimental study design and statistical analysis.
Strong communication and presentation skills (graphical, written, and verbal).
Previous experience with applying holistic datasets to decisions that optimize human performance (including range-of-motion, strength, speed, and workload information).
Previous experience with SQL is preferred.
Previous experience applying statistical methods and visualizing large biomechanics datasets.
Previous experience collecting and analyzing data from wearable technologies is a plus (IMU, GPS, HR, etc.).

Salary: $18.15 an hour
