BACKGROUND

The NHL Video Replay Technician (VRT) will be working during NHL games and be responsible for monitoring the Hawk-Eye video replay equipment at least two hours prior to puck drop and throughout the. The VRT must monitor the system to ensure that no required camera feeds are missing and that the game clock is burned into the appropriate camera feeds and take and necessary steps should issues arise.


The VRT must also be available as a backup to the Official Scorer and HITS Scorers in the event a review of scoring or other statistics are needed, often during the intermissions or at the conclusion of the game. The VRT will follow the direction of the Official Scorer to ensure all reviews are completed before the equipment is powered down.


The VRT will report to the Arena Technical Operations Manager (ATM)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ATC/VRTs responsibilities will include:

  • Arrive two hours prior to game start time and working approximately 30 minutes post-game. Each shift is approximately five hours.
  • Start the Hawk-Eye replay system and ensure connectivity to the remote Hawk-Eye systems (Home and Away video coaches, Home and Away medical rooms and the In-Arena League Spotter laptop)
  • Interact with Arena Technical Operations, Broadcasters and Hawk-Eye Technical Support
  • The ATC/VRT will playout appropriate video to broadcast trucks (definitive camera angle) and will communicate directly over headsets after coach’s challenge


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Have a high-level understanding of the game of hockey and NHL rules.
  • Ability to anticipate what may be reviewed by the Video Goal Judge and/or NHL Hockey Operations Department staff
  • Have an understanding of video signals and video frame rates
  • Be able to view two or more monitors simultaneously
  • Have a basic understanding of Networking and TCP/IP


Pay Rate for this position is $27/hour.


Actual base pay for a successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to: experience/training, market demands, and geographic location.
