WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU

SUMMARY
This is an innovative, multifaceted role to support fantasy hockey, sports betting and NHL EDGE Stats editorial coverage, sponsorships and free-to-play games on the League’s website and other platforms. The position will help the director, senior fantasy editor write daily articles, provide player rankings, projections and @NHLFantasy social media promotion, support all related sponsorship elements and more. The employee will also help this department continue to embrace new media strategies in these evolving content realms to maximize fan engagement for live NHL games and events.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor NHL news, games and events and assist in the delivery of fantasy, betting and EDGE stats content for League platforms and media partners
  • Responsible for writing and editing articles to satisfy sponsorship requirements for fantasy, sportsbook partners and free-to-play games
  • Contribute fantasy player rankings, top pickups, stat projections and comprehensive preseason draft prep during buildup to each new season
  • Assist in managing the @NHLFantasy social media accounts (Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook, Threads), embracing new media (experience in TikTok and/or YouTube a plus) and adapting to new features and trends on each platform
  • Work closely with NHL editors/producers, social media and PR teams to ensure proper placement/promotion, quality control and SEO
  • Help program homepage and microsites and formulate ideas to streamline and maximize performance/growth of content wherever possible
  • Handle multimedia, audio and video production tasks and work collaboratively within Zoom, Slack and Microsoft Excel Online
  • Establish a professional individual social media presence to answer daily fan questions and gear content toward popular trends


QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge Areas/Experience

Required

  • Ability to diligently cover evolving sports betting landscape, including daily article(s) identifying the most compelling matchups/odds and props to watch
  • Ability to track surface-level and advanced stats to accurately project future player performance
  • Must have a strong news sense and identify relevant fantasy, betting and advanced stats trends in a timely and accurate fashion
  • At least two seasons covering the NHL or working in sports media, preferably from a fantasy, betting or advanced stats lens
  • In-depth knowledge of players from all 32 teams, along with lineups, prospects, past performance and more to provide/update actionable content
  • Ability to compare and contrast players and teams for purposes of fantasy rankings, stat projections, betting and EDGE articles
  • Capability to contribute to the NHL Fantasy on Ice podcast and/or NHL Network and appear on any programming for the League and its partners

Preferred

  • Any professional experience in sports business, social media and/or advanced analytics a plus
  • Past on-air work a plus


Education/Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications/journalism


Required Skills

  • Must be able to work independently, especially when working remotely, and multi-task during a fast-paced daily routine
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and nights when needed, to cover breaking news and satisfy sponsorship obligations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working in content management systems
  • Proficiency in AP style is a must

SALARY:

$60K

Actual base pay for a successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to: experience/training, market demands, and geographic location.
