WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU

SUMMARY
The National Hockey League seeks an experienced media-focused attorney to provide legal support and oversight on media-related transactions and business matters, including with respect to broadcast and cable media, streaming and direct-to-consumer media distribution.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate as a senior member of the League's in-house legal team primarily focusing on media-related transactions and business matters, including:

  • Working closely with senior businesspeople, in-house lawyers and outside counsel strategizing, structuring, drafting, negotiating and providing general legal advice on media relationships, agreements, services and other matters, including for example:
  • Matters relating to regional, national and international broadcast and cable media businesses;
  • Matters relating to streaming and direct-to-consumer content distribution;
  • Responsibility for planning and day-to-day management of transactional processes;
  • Legal support in connection with Club media matters, as applicable; and
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Serve as key subject matter legal expert with respect to media-related matters, including by proactively staying up to date with new and emerging trends, marketplace developments, and developments in laws, regulations, standards and guidance related to media rights, distribution and technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge Areas/Experience
Required

  • At least 6 years of transactional experience focused on media-related matters, with extensive knowledge and experience analyzing and applying applicable laws, regulations and industry best practices related to media


Preferred

  • Law firm experience preferred


Education/Certifications

  • JD from an accredited law school. Admission (or ability to be admitted) to New York Bar required.

SALARY RANGE:

$220-260K

Actual base pay for a successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to: experience/training, market demands, and geographic location.
