The Junior Sous Chef is responsible for ensuring a high quality of food offerings in our various concession stands, overseeing and directing all aspects of the operation of the kitchen, and in providing functional assistance, coordinating activities and functions with other managers in the food and beverage department, within the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation.


  • Demonstrate superior culinary skills with a creative spirit.
  • Deliver exceptional fan service.
  • Communicate with F&B Management to include all details pertaining to specific events, ongoing changes to general routine and/or procedures.
  • Assist with training and development of new and existing culinary staff.
  • Support and communicate all company policies.
  • Develop with the culinary team new menu designs, costing, budgets and forecasting to ensure targets are met or exceeded.
  • Work under pressure and meet established goals and objectives.
  • Provide accurate recording of all food inventories and maintain established food cost.
  • Deliver accurate reporting for interdepartmental transfers of food and labor costs.
  • Conduct daily tours of production areas & concession stands to ensure proper storage of products.
  • Ensure that all working areas are always kept clean, and the team is following food and safety standards.
  • Perform other administrative tasks as will be communicated by superiors.
  • Work towards exceeding customer’s expectation by encouraging and promoting high level of service.
  • Work with the staff on the floor and promote teamwork.
  • Give appropriate support or guidance to members of kitchen when the need arises.
  • Ensure all dishes are prepared according to specification and served at the correct quality, portion size, and temperature.
  • Report the need for maintenance of equipment to appropriate department.
  • Will report directly to the Ex. Sous Chef and Chef of Concessions.
  • Able to work at both the Scotiabank Saddledome and at McMahon Stadium.
  • All other responsibilities as assigned.


The ideal candidate will have the following background:

  • Professional cooking diploma – Red Seal & Food Safe are mandatory.
  • Must have proficient computer literacy skills (Microsoft Programs, Scheduling Platforms, Inventory and Recipe Systems, etc.)
  • High school diploma is considered an asset.
  • 3 + years’ experience in a similar position working in a fast-paced production kitchen with multi-unit stands operation.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial information related to food, menu, and labor costing.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet established goals and objectives.
  • Financial and business development experience.
  • Superior customer service, teambuilding, and conflict resolution skills
  • Very strong communication, problem solving, decision making, and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for food: someone who enjoys the process of food preparation and creating menus.
  • Ability to pay attention to details: adherence to specific ingredients and measurement needed for various menus.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of hygiene and cleanliness in all kitchen areas & concession stands.
  • Ability to multitask: The sous chef in the junior position must be able to handle many tasks all at once.
  • Ability to handle both positive & negative criticisms from customers and superiors.

This position will remain open until 5:00pm Monday, May 13th, 2024 or until a suitable candidate is found.
