Goalkeeping Coach (U16 – U14)

JOB TITLE: Womens Academy - Goalkeeping Coach (U16-U14)

DEPARTMENT: Women’s Academy

JOB FUNCTION: To deliver an elite youth goalkeeping development programme designed to produce goalkeepers capable of playing for Chelsea FC Women.

LOCATION: Cobham Training Ground – Plus travel to & from away games.

CONTRACT: Part time, Fixed Term Contract – 12 Hours per week – 4 days from 7 as required by team schedule.

PLAY YOUR PART (Main Responsibilities):

  • Works closely with the Academy Goalkeeping Lead to successfully deliver the Chelsea Women’s Academy Goalkeeping programme.
  • Leads the delivery of the goalkeeping programme for U14, U15 & U16 age groups.
  • Leads the individual action plans, on & off pitch, for U14-16 goalkeepers including the creation of game/training clips.
  • Provides matchday support for U14-16 age groups, as well as other age groups as and when required.
  • Delivers the Chelsea GK Profile in age relevant way for U14-16 GKs.
  • Works closely with Academy Goalkeeping Lead & wider academy MDT to ensure U14-16 goalkeeper needs are met with analysis, physical performance, medical, psychology & menstrual cycle.
  • Supports goalkeepers & age group coaches in maximising the outcomes for the goalkeeper in training sessions & matches for U14-U16 age groups.
  • Works closely with Academy Goalkeeping Lead to maintain database & longlist of youth GKs across all age groups. Creates & stores video packages of opposition GK’s U16 & below.
  • Review U14-U16 goalkeeper performance & progress and report this regularly to Academy Goalkeeping Lead.
  • To complete regular personal development & CPD to continuously upskill themselves both internally & externally.
  • Perform any other duties as required within the Goalkeeping Department for Women’s Senior Team & Women’s Academy.

  • Builds & maintains good working relationships & works successfully with all players, parents & staff within the Women’s Academy.
  • Produces & delivers work of the highest standards, befitting the expectations of the club.

Qualifications:

  • UEFA B GK Licence (Essential)
  • UEFA B Licence (Desirable)
  • FA Youth Award (Essential)
  • FA Safeguarding Qualification (Essential)
  • FA First Aid Qualification (Essential)
  • UEFA A GK Licence (Desirable)
  • Postgraduate qualification in relevant subject (e.g. sport science/coaching) (Desirable)

Experience:

  • 1-3 years’ coaching experience in an elite youth football development environment (Essential)
  • Experience working with elite youth female athletes (Desirable)

Skills and Behaviours:

  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills to be able to work successfully across a range of stakeholders (e.g. age group coaches, parents, Senior Team staff).
  • Has a passion for youth development and understands the process of developing talent.
  • Has good reflection skills to review individual performance and adapts to the benefit of the programme.
  • Is reliable and has a strong ‘can do’ attitude to their work. Completes even the smallest task to the highest standard.
  • Shows great attention to detail & delivers the highest standards regardless of the task.
  • Has a keen desire to improve themselves as a practitioner & completes the relevant CPD required to do so.
