JOB TITLE: Breakthrough Talent Scout

DEPARTMENT: Academy

JOB FUNCTION: To provide accurate and actionable information on external players breaking into first-team football, for the purposes of player recruitment. This will be facilitated through the scouting of matches and provision of reports.

CONTRACT: Permanent - 40 hours a week across 6 of 7 working days. 2 of these 6 days should be Saturday and Sunday.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend live matches and watch games by video, to produce reports in line with the CFC reporting procedures and timeframes.
  • Provide player recommendations in line with the CFC procedures and timeframes.
  • Track the top youth targets who are breaking into senior football and maintain up to date lists on the in-house scouting system of players of interest. Present these to senior staff when requested
  • Assist in the collection of context and background information on key players of interest
  • Scout at tournaments as directed by the regional manager and senior staff (International travel for scouting coverage may be required as part of the role)
  • Develop and maintain a strong network of contacts within clubs including Sports Directors, Academy Managers, Coaches, Agents, and other key stakeholders.
  • Attend scouting meetings as required
  • Maintain up to date knowledge on the in-house players at Chelsea FC from U16-U21
  • Undertake video clipping of recommended players produce and documentation to assist the recruitment process when required
  • Work on any other scouting project as required by Chelsea FC

MEASUES OF PERFORMANCE:

  • Minimum of 6 live and video matches per week, with a yearly ratio of 60:40 live to video.
  • Quality and timeliness of reports & recommendations.
  • Top breakthrough talents highlighted to the recruitment team, with the aim of CFC signing a player(s) in this age group
  • Development of trusted contacts and knowledge across the area

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION:

Qualifications:

  • Valid Passport and driving licence
  • Minimum of FA Level 2 Talent ID Qualification or UEFA B Coaching Licence
  • Fluent in English

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ scouting experience at a professional level, including management of a region or project.
  • Highly computer literate in office suite and capability to learn to use in-house systems
