JOB TITLE: Local Goalkeeper Scout

DEPARTMENT: Goalkeeper Department

JOB FUNCTION: Generate actionable goalkeeping insights to inform the recruitment of 6 years old to U12 players with the potential to eventually play for the Chelsea Football Club first team.

CONTRACT: Permanent

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Scout locally and across regions as directed by GK Scouting Manager & regional co-ordinators.
  • Attend junior, youth & senior games as and when required.
  • To be aware of ALL the best goalkeepers (and potentially best goalkeepers) in the 6-16 age group locally/nationwide and constantly review, develop and improve knowledge of goalkeepers.
  • Regular communications with local/regional coordinators and area/assistant area scouts (Teams, Zoom conference calls & face to face meetings) and attend meetings as required.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the football culture and infrastructure across the scouting regions.
  • Develop and maintain a strong network of contacts within clubs, including Sports Directors, Academy Managers, Coaches, Agents, and other key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate tournament coverage across the region and maintain a calendar of upcoming events. Liaise with other regional co-ordinators, line manager and analysts
  • Attend/watch National and International matches and tournaments as directed by senior staff.
  • Assist in the collection of background information on goalkeeping targets in the UK from a variety of sources (including social media).
  • Maintain up to date knowledge on the in-house goalkeepers at Chelsea FC across all age groups.
  • To have an understanding of, and liaise as appropriate with Chelseaā€™s ā€œFootball Foundationā€ to assist in identifying talented young goalkeepers.
  • Complete video scout assignments on a weekly basis as directed.
  • Work on any other scouting project as required by Chelsea FC.
  • Adhere to Local league, schools, local FA, Premier League rules and FA rules and regulations to ensure CFC & Academy policies and procedures are carried out.
  • Update all scouting reports onto Chelsea FC databases within 48 hours of attending a ā€˜liveā€™ game.

Additional Tasks

  • Develop knowledge and research all 6-12years GKā€™s in the x1 hour travel rule
  • Scout live and video report on the best 6-12 years GKā€™s in the x1 hour travel rule
  • Create video content to showcase the best u8 GKā€™s to support the recruitment process for the new u9 cohort
  • Create video content to showcase the best 9-12 GKā€™s to support the recruitment process.
  • Develop knowledge and research all 13-18 years GKā€™s in the x1.5 hour travel rule
  • Work closely with the GK Scout Manager & GK Analysis Manager to assist in the creation of video content to showcase the best 6-12 GKā€™s in the x1 hour travel rule
  • Scout other elite sports to find exciting talent that could transition into GKā€™s

MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE:

  • 6 weekly goalkeeper reports (minimum)
  • Approximately 2/3 live & 3/4 video.
  • Reports submitted onto the internal system within 48 hours
  • Attend weekly / monthly Regional Cell Meetings and Scouting Conferences
  • Recommending goalkeepers to sign for Chelsea FC

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION:

Skills, knowledge and qualifications:

  • Highly computer literate in office suite and ability to use in-house systems
  • Valid passport and driving license
  • Competent report writing

Experience:

Essential

  • Knowledge of the scouting process
  • Good knowledge of goalkeeping
  • To understand the profile of goalkeeper we are looking to recruit in respective age brackets
  • To be enthusiastic about recruiting the best goalkeepers

Desirable

  • Minimum 3 years experience at Elite Sport.
  • Minimum of FA Level 2 Talent ID Qualification or UEFA B Coaching Licence
  • Valid Emergency First Aid
  • Willing to take responsibility and follow tasks to a successful completion
  • Be personable and enthusiastic with a strong work ethic
  • Organised and Diligent
