The Role of Academy Goalkeeper Coach

Support, guide and direct talented young goalkeepers to maximise their potential in sporting performance & personal excellence within the Academy. Support the delivery of relevant, innovative & enjoyable coaching practices across goalkeeping groups, as well as small-group outfield and whole team sessions. In doing so, also upholding and demonstrating the values, standards and behaviours expected by Brentford FC both inside & outside the Club.

Main Accountabilities

  • To ensure that any concerns you observe, or are raised with you in your role, are shared with the Safeguarding Team through appropriate channels.
  • Work from an aligned and periodised coaching curriculum that is constantly under review and support the creation and review of such a curriculum.
  • Coach goalkeepers across various phases of the Academy.
  • Watch match and training videos, clip relevant sections and present constructive analysis and feedback to all players under your supervision.
  • Coach and/or support multi-disciplinary activities across various phases of the Academy.
  • Ensure all players under your supervision understand and adhere to rules and guidelines.
  • Plan and evaluate all Academy sessions on the PMA.
  • Ensure all rules relating to youth development (EPPP) are always met.
  • Complete all necessary age group and player paperwork to include match reports, PMA content, player diaries & reviews within the required timescales.
  • Communicate with other Club staff, players and parents in a professional and timely fashion.
  • Conduct player reviews with players and maintain records of the meetings for inspection/audit.
  • Participate in squad audits and player pathway planning.
  • Watch potential new recruits as directed by the Recruitment Department, either by video or attending live matches if needed.
  • Any other reasonable & relevant requests as made from time to time.

Person Specification - Essential Personal Characteristics

  • Minimum UEFA B coaching licence
  • Completed or working towards Emergency First Aid in Football (EFAiF)
  • Combination of specialist goalkeeping and broader football coaching knowledge, understanding and skills.
  • Capability to create learning scenarios through demonstration to simulate players’ skills and development areas.
  • IT skills to create player and team reports and analysis.
  • Demonstrate a productive work ethic.
  • Possess and demonstrate a positive mental attitude.
  • Effectively and efficiently communicate at all levels and build strong relationships.
  • Adopt a flexible & adaptable approach.
  • Be willing to take responsibility and follow tasks to a successful completion.
  • Work on your own initiative, take control where needs be, guide and support others.
  • Be persistent, patient and an innovative problem solver.
  • Show a willingness to take instruction and follow guidance.
  • Show committed enthusiasm for the multi-disciplinary approach at all levels and all ages.
  • Possess a demonstrable desire to see the Brentford FC Academy develop and progress.

Person Specification - Desirable Characteristics

  • Currently hold or be prepared to partake in an FA GK Coaching B Licence as a minimum
  • Undergraduate/post graduate qualification
  • Experience as a goalkeeper with advanced coaching or sport science education/formation
  • FA Basic First Aid for Sport (BFAS)
  • FA Youth Award
  • An open mindset and be hungry to grow and develop
  • Demonstrable experience, likely to be around three years or more, in a similar role. (not necessarily football or sport experience, but a solid understanding of the game, fan opinion and industry issues)
  • Knowledge of our community and local connections would be helpful
