Academy Physiotherapist (Casual Role)

The Role


We are looking for an Academy Physiotherapist (sessional) to join us on a casual basis and provide vital pitch side medical cover for U9-U16 matches and training sessions throughout the Academy season.

Working closely with our Lead Academy Physiotherapist and Head of Academy Performance, you will proactively assist in the screening, monitoring and assessment of all Academy players as well as the treatment and rehabilitation of all injured players aged 8-16 years.

Your day-to-day


Medical provision

  • Provide pitch side medical cover for Academy matches (home and away) in the Foundation and Youth Development Phase (U9-U16)
  • Maintain an up to date pitch side emergency first aid qualification in accordance with the Premier League and FA guidelines - ITMMiF
  • Uphold continued professional development in relation to pitch side first aid and pre-hospital trauma care
  • Provide pitch side medical care and advice to players and parents following injury
  • Report incidence of injury to the Lead Academy Physiotherapist and full-time Academy physiotherapists following Academy matches
  • Play an active role in departmental continued professional development and service development
  • Adhere to our Child Protection, Health, Safety and Equal Opportunity procedures

Treatment and Rehabilitation

  • Consult with players to gather information about general health and injury
  • Collect and analyse data to identify cause of injury and contribute to strategies for the prevention and reduction of injury
  • Diagnose and treat injured players when required and to a high standard of clinical care
  • Provide physiotherapy input to improve fit players and minimise time lost due to injury
  • Devise, manage and evaluate effectiveness of rehabilitation/treatment plans
  • Contribute and attend to the team’s internal continual professional development programme

Communication:

  • Communicate with including players, parents and coaching staff regarding player injury and rehabilitation
  • Collaborate with the Lead Academy Physiotherapist in relation to player injuries and medical welfare
  • Liaise and report back to the full time Academy Physiotherapist after every clinic session or match cover in accordance with CSP and HCPC guidelines
  • Maintain an high standard of clinical note taking in accordance with the CSP and HCPS guidelines

What we are looking for


  • Qualified in Physiotherapy or Sports Therapy - you hold a BSc or MSc degree level qualification
  • Credible expertise - you are HCPC or equivalent Registered and hold FA Level 4 ITMMiF or FA Level 5 ATMMiF
  • Exceptional track record - you come with a successful and verifiable record in enhancing the physical development of young players, as well as a background in assessing, treating and rehabilitating injuries of youth athletes aged 8 to 16 years
  • Manual handling and clinical reasoning experience - your approach to assessing and treating injured Academy players is outstanding
  • In-depth knowledge of typical pathologies - you know the issues that can present with the injured adolescent athlete and you're confident in your ability to manage these effectively to ensure a safe and effective return to full competition
  • Proficient with injury management - you're well equipped with solid knowledge on screening, monitoring, assessing, treating and rehabilitating youth athletes
  • Excellent communication skills - you're able to communicate effectively and collaborate with the multidiscipline team and key colleagues involved in the care of the Academy player
  • Flexibility and adaptability - you're proactive and versatile in your approach and have a willingness to be flexible when needs be
  • Energy and enthusiasm - you are an excellent role model and proud of your ability to enthuse and inspire young athletes
