Position Summary:

The Seattle Kraken are looking for a Mid-Level Software Engineer with a passion for the fan experience, sports, and an excitement to continue building the Seattle Kraken brand and franchise. As a part of this team, you will revolutionize the fan experience by creating and supporting a cross-platform mobile application designed to support fans before, during and after all events at the rebuilt, state-of-the-art Climate Pledge Arena. You will be responsible for the design of application features, upholding established software coding and design standards, and participating in the hiring process. You will also engage in passionate collaboration with product, users, and other software teams to help redefine the fan experience for generations to come.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work with a team of engineers to create a mobile application experience from back-end to front-end from the ground up, with an emphasis on performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Work within and constantly improve an established toolchain to facilitate collaboration and best practices, such as source control, code reviewing, building, testing, and monitoring.
  • Create and update documentation, including architecture diagrams, integration guides, runbooks, and other documentation.
  • Respond to operational emergencies and support tickets quickly to address customer facing issues.
  • Mentor and develop the skills of junior team members to become more effective engineers when applicable.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities to improve the customer experience to engineers and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with potential users, engineers, and management to define requirements, describe software features and designs, and identify unknowns.
  • Interview and help make hiring decisions on junior and other mid-level software engineers.
  • Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or other related discipline.
  • 3+ years of industry experience as a software engineer.
  • Proficiency in Computer Science fundamentals, such as data structures, object-oriented design, algorithm design and analysis, and problem solving.
  • Experience creating and/or contributing to a mobile application on iOS and/or Android, including writing and maintaining native code.
  • Experience designing small to medium sized applications or features as part of a larger system.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of software engineering best practices including coding standards, code reviewing, testing, deploying, and operational support.
  • Experience investigating and resolving quality issues by performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Experience writing and maintaining software documentation.
  • Experience with written and verbal communication for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an expert ability to present and communicate new ideas and concepts.
  • Extremely organized and detail oriented, resourceful, quick learner and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A high degree of personal integrity and consistently put the interests of the organization first.
  • Must be a fierce communicator and cross-organizational collaborator.

Preferred Experience & Qualifications:

  • Experience designing and implementing back-end service APIs using REST and/or GraphQL.
  • Experience contributing to cross-platform mobile applications using React Native.
  • Experience with AWS services such as Amplify, DynamoDB, AppSync, and others, ideally in support of a mobile app.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective software engineers.
  • Possession of an understanding of iOS and Android operating systems and application structures/lifecycles.
  • Deep knowledge of the sport of hockey, including rules, statistics, strategy, and personnel.

  • Compensation:
    • In accordance with Washington’s Equal Pay and Opportunity Act, the expected salary range for this position is $115,000 - $125,000. Actual base pay will depend on employee’s experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Working Conditions:

  • Based on-site in our Seattle office and requires work to be performed in person.
  • Minimal Travel (<10% travel): May be required to travel. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required
  • Frequent bending, lifting 15-20 pounds, sitting, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building including inclines and stairs.
