Summary:

The Latin America S&C Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the New York Mets’ Dominican Academy S&C program as well as assisting the S&C Coordinator with player programming, S&C staff oversight and mentorship at the FCL level. This position is responsible for the professional development of the Mets Dominican Academy S&C Coaches and must ensure that the DR S&C function is closely integrated with Performance and Player Development staff across all relevant functions (e.g., AT, PT, Nutrition, Performance Technology, coaches). This position is also responsible for ensuring smooth player transition from the Dominican Academy to the FL Complex and that the approach to athletic development in the DR is an extension of the philosophy and approach of the broader Performance Department. The Latin America S&C Coordinator plays a critical role developing training habits, improving body composition, and driving performance improvement among players at the earliest stages of their development.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the design and execution of individual player programming based on objective assessments and positional requirements within the Dominican Academy
  • Oversee the programming and coaching of: Movement Preparation, Linear and Multidirectional Movement Skill and Speed, Plyometrics, Strength and Power Development, Energy System Development, Corrective exercises, and Recovery and Regeneration Protocols within the Dominican Academy
  • Serve as the direct supervisor to all DR S&C staff
  • Assist with the development and execution of performance training systems designed to maximize player development at both the Dominican Academy and FL Complex levels
  • Assist the S&C Coordinator with oversight and development of FL Complex S&C staff and with training program development for FCL players
  • Assist in the delivery of player physical profiling twice annually (at a minimum) for all players within the Dominican Academy and provide reports at the end of these periods
  • Ensure collaboration between the DR S&C Coaches with the DR AT, PT, Nutrition, and Sports Science staffs
  • Collaborate with the MiLB Performance Nutrition Coordinator and DR-based Nutritionist to assist players in meeting their body composition, health, and performance goals
  • Assist in the creation and execution of rehabilitation protocols for injured players to ensure a return to competition in a high-performing state
  • Collaborate with field staff to develop solutions for on-field performance deficits
  • Educate DR field staff on S&C coaching processes and initiatives
  • Serve as a link between the Mets US-based Performance staff and the wider Dominican Academy Performance staff (including Medical and Performance Nutrition)
  • Travel to the DR Academy at least 6 times per year with a minimum of 50% of total work time being on-the-ground at the DR Academy
  • Provide regular progress reports to the Director, Minor League S&C and Nutrition
  • Communicate, as needed, with assigned players during the off-season and provide updates on their health and performance status to leadership in Performance and Player Development
  • Work at off season strength camps at both the Dominican Academy and FL Complex as requested
  • Assist, as requested, with workouts and performance data collection for international amateur player acquisition in collaboration with Performance Technology
  • Maintain knowledge of latest trends and leading practices in the performance field
  • Maintain all professional credentials and licensure

Essential Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, or related degree

  • NSCA CSCS, RSCC, and CPR/First Aid certification

  • Experience working with teams/athletes in high-level sports (Professional sports, Division I athletics)

  • Competent with performance programming and coaching linear/multidirectional movement skills

  • Proven track record of developing performance programs for the demands of the sport and long term athletic development.

  • Experience with developing aerobic and anaerobic energy system development programs

  • Evidence of continued applicable professional development and education (Workshops, accreditations, certifications, etc.)

  • Excellent communication skills with coaches, athletes, and staff

  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally

  • Must be able to work unconventional hours

  • Experience with periodic player performance assessments and readiness monitoring

  • A positive and proactive personality with a passion for assisting others in achieving their goals.

  • 5+ years’ full-time experience in a similar Lead/managerial role.

  • 8+ years full time experience in Strength & Conditioning

Desired Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate/Master’s degree in a related discipline

  • Experience working in baseball (Collegiate, MiLB, MLB)

  • Bilingual Spanish/English

  • Familiarity with Athlete monitoring systems, force plate systems, athlete positioning systems, and load cell and strain gauge-based testing devices

  • Experience of developing coach education programs to ensure continued development of new and existing staff

  • Bilingual Spanish/English.

  • Experience working in baseball (Collegiate, MiLB, MLB).
