Player Health Compliance Lead, BAL (Remote)

Position Summary

This new position will join a team with impacts across multiple departments throughout the BAL, working on team compliance with all matters related to BAL player health. The individual in this role will report directly to the BAL Head of League Operations and will work closely with the BAL Medical Lead, NBA Medical Operations Group, and NBA Player Health Group. The workstreams for this role include the management of tasks related to compliance tracking of and record keeping associated with BAL player health processes and programs. The BAL Compliance Lead will regularly interact with BAL team operations, health, and performance personnel and help administer policies related to medical practices across teams.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Help develop and oversee the maintenance of BAL player health processes and programs;
  • Assist in monitoring and facilitating team compliance with player health-related processes and requirements for teams, including with respect to the submission of required player health records and league forms;
  • Coordinate and participate in tracking and uploading player health-related information submitted by teams, including records regarding player concussions, cardiac screening, and other injuries and illnesses;
  • Communicate and consult with the BAL and its executive leadership, as well as the NBA player health group, on health-related compliance issues that may arise before, during, and after the BAL season;
  • Develop and implement processes to flag and timely communicate compliance concerns to the BAL Medical Lead and others at the league office;
  • Interact with team health, performance, and operational staff regarding player health-related processes and requirements, including with respect to teams’ compliance with such processes and requirements;
  • Work with individuals who have medical, public health, legal, and basketball operations backgrounds to build on existing BAL player health processes and programs;
  • Develop and review BAL policy and protocol documents for BAL season activity and BAL Draft Combine;
  • Assist BAL and NBA medical staff with activities related to expanding the network of medical providers and healthcare resources on the continent. Assist with procuring information related to credentialing and certification;
  • Create educational resources for teams on relevant health topics, including on medical risks present in each country;
  • Develop a medical providers directory, compiling the top local providers in each BAL team market;
  • Assist in organizing physician’s conferences during multiple points throughout the season;
  • Attend meetings and calls at the league office, and provide meeting report outs to the BAL Medical group, as necessary.

Required Education and Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in the field of law, business, public health, or a related field required; Master’s degree in such fields (e.g., MPH or MBA) preferred

  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in drafting and editing documents (including Excel files) and creating dynamic presentations using Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word) required; familiarity with electronic medical records and other technical software platforms and database management systems preferred.

Location:

Remote, with potential for travel to game locations in Africa (up to a minimum of one month per season)
