Assistant Team Doctor – Women’s Team, Academy and First Team

The Purpose:

Reporting to the Head of Sports Medicine and primarily delivering elite medical service provision for Manchester United Academy, Women’s Team (Professional & Developmental). There will also be additional support to the Men’s 1st Team as directed by Head of Sports Medicine or Senior 1st Team Doctor.

The Role:

  • Support for Senior Women’s Team Doctor and Senior Academy Doctor.
  • Assess diagnose treat and manage new player injuries.
  • Manage daily medical issues and presentations in the medical and physiotherapy room.
  • Confident in the use of ultrasound for monitoring of injuries
  • Provide Pitch side cover at Carrington training ground for training sessions were required and on occasion as the tunnel doctor at Old Trafford.
  • Manage and follow-up on referrals to specialists and consultants outside the club.
  • Attending appropriate match days and tours sometimes working unsociable hours.
  • Providing medical support and cover for Academy and Women’s Team matches.
  • Liaise effectively with the Head Physiotherapist and Physiotherapy teams.
  • Liaise effectively with Football Management and Support staff including Support.
  • Follow Clinical Governance process in all player healthcare matters in accordance with accepted UK professional practice standards.
  • Any other duties or projects as directed by the Head of Sports Medicine, or Senior 1st Team Doctor.
  • Perform an instrumental role in the development of protocols around specific areas such as concussion and emergency action plans at Carrington training ground and the stadium.
  • Attend player clinic appointments for operations interventions and examinations both in the UK and abroad.
  • Record all clinical notes on the athlete medical system as well as auditing the use of medication at the club.
  • Provide continuous contributions and development around the areas of governance in and around the training ground.
  • Provide guidance and support in the provision of doping and whereabouts for the relevant teams.

The Person:

  • Experience in general medical practice & sports medicine.
  • Significant experience in elite sports team medical service.
  • Ability to multitask and work to strict deadlines.
  • High levels of accuracy, standards and be quality driven.
  • Ability to integrate into the multidisciplinary medical team and liaise with other administrative and player support departments.
  • Ensure strong lines of communication between departments ensuring alignment on medical decisions.
  • Methodical approach with planning, excellent organisational skills and an ability to work with total discretion at all times.
  • Strong work ethic with a positive energetic can do attitude – proactive and solution orientated.
  • Calm and measured when working under pressure.
  • Flexible and adaptable – has the ability to work in a fast moving environment.
  • Resilient in high pressure moments and difficult decisions.
  • Takes responsibility and deals with issues effectively and swiftly.
  • Demonstrate computer literacy, familiar with Microsoft office or similar packages.
