Senior Manager, Fan & Market Insights

Major League Soccer’s Strategy and Business Intelligence group is tasked with supporting strategic decision making and resource allocation across the League – with a focus on driving fan growth, revenue collection, and operating efficiencies – by providing impactful data driven insights, analysis, and recommendations.

The group is seeking a Senior Manager, Fan & Market Insights who will lead the design and management of an online MLS fan panel/community and manage qualitative and quantitative research projects from start to finish.

The ideal candidate has a deep interest and curiosity in consumer behaviors and the analytical background to interpret and develop new insights that will be shared across the organization.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Transform enterprise business questions and challenges into fan insights projects/activities via online MLS fan community, including identifying methodology and approach, crafting research instruments (questionnaire, discussion guides, etc.), conducting data analysis, and delivering results that translate findings into actionable insights
  • Lead management of online MLS fan community, engaging panel on a regular cadence through surveys, focus groups, and other activities to uncover insights that drive strategic decision making across the organization
  • Manage MLS fan community engagement roadmap, ensuring consistent deployment of surveys and activities on a pre-determined frequency to fully use resource and keep panelists engaged
  • Build and deliver insights presentations to executive level League and Club partners, with attention to detail, cogent takeaways, and intuitive design
  • Champion the voice of the fan across the Enterprise, keeping a pulse on key trends, attitudes, and behaviors of soccer fans
  • Handle key market research vendor relationships to ensure high quality execution, effective reporting, and timely delivery of projects
  • Lead other ad-hoc custom research projects or analysis as needed

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist in any Strategy & Business Intelligence department initiatives or special projects
  • Interpret and apply syndicated data to further support custom primary studies and provide broader insights to internal business partners
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years experience in market research and strategic insights creation
  • Experience in both qualitative and quantitative consumer-based research

Required Skills

  • Outstanding project management skills with the ability to multi-task and meet timelines with minimal direction
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to draw conclusions and extract meaningful insights from data
  • High degree of intellectual curiosity and creative insight
  • Strong presentation skills and comfortability with presenting to senior level audiences
  • Strong social skills and effectively communicate, both written and verbally
  • Excellent market research survey writing skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment
  • Proven decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Broad understanding of the sports and entertainment industry
  • Strong experience with PowerPoint, Excel, and Word

Desired Skills

  • Experience leading a market research online community
  • Experience with programming quantitative and qualitative surveys and activities
  • Moderation experience a plus

Total Rewards

Starting Base Salary: $90,000 – $120,000. MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
