Senior Coordinator, Editorial Content

Overview

The Senior Coordinator, Editorial Content will work closely with the Senior Content Producer and the rest of the editorial team to position Major League Soccer as the most engaging and innovative sports brand across league owned channels. In addition to covering the weekly action of the League, this position will come up with engaging story ideas and produce content in partnership with MLS photo, video, and editorial teams to help achieve league objectives. As a key player in helping grow the MLS fan base across our digital ecosystem, including our partnership with Apple TV, the Content Producer will help manage the process in which we create and publish content during the week and on matchdays on MLS marketing channels.

This role will help oversee the daily content production of MLSsoccer.com and will be responsible for helping to create and produce video hits, stories, review content, manage the layout of the League homepage and develop story and video ideas to ensure complete coverage of MLS matches and big moments throughout the season.

Responsibilities

  • Generate and produce digital content on a weekly/daily basis, in alignment with fan needs and department objectives, leading with editorial.
  • Media monitoring from MLS clubs as well as local, national and international news sites and the social media community for stories that impact the world of MLS.
  • Oversee the creation of timely, responsive content based on news from around the League; partner with MLS Communications on League announcements.
  • Exhibit sound judgement throughout the content process to ensure content is aligned with the League’s brand values and strategic position.
  • Help oversee a team of freelancers who are writing and editing stories, especially on match nights.
  • Support the creation of content plans around MLS Brand tentpole events and partner initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal team members in social, video, graphics and user experience in the creation and distribution of content to improve efficiency, user experience and impact.
  • Provide performance feedback to the team of freelance writers and editors.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3+ years’ experience of writing and producing content for a digital publication
  • 3+ years’ experience editing content for a digital publication

Required Skills

  • A willingness and excitement to work at the speed of sports, including weekend matches and non-traditional hours
  • Excellent speaking and writing skills in both English and Spanish language
  • Strong knowledge of the world of soccer and familiarity with Major League Soccer, its teams, and players
  • Ability to edit, write and post content within a content management system
  • Preferred experience with Adobe Photoshop
  • Ability to edit images and create customized graphics
  • Able to work under tight deadlines and know how to prioritize assignments
  • Understand basic concepts of search engine optimization and an ability to write compelling headlines
  • Superior organization, project management skills and attention to detail
  • High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Asana
  • Demonstrated decision making and solutions oriented
  • Meticulous with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Ability to travel including on evenings, weekends, and holidays

Total Rewards

Starting Base Salary: $62,500 – $68,000. MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
