Anticipated Time Commitment: approximately 35 hours per week

Position Location: On-Site in Indianapolis, IN

Pacers Sports & Entertainment is seeking a Basketball Communications Season Associate who will work with the Indiana Pacers Basketball Communications Department in day-to-day communications and media relations functions. This is an entry-level opportunity to gain experience in the professional sports communications field. This person will interact with members of the media as well as various departments within the organization to assist with the overall communications efforts of the team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the day-to-day responsibilities involving the Basketball Communications staff for the Indiana Pacers.
  • Compile, format, and distribute daily news clips (gathered from a multitude of media/digital outlets and platforms) to the basketball operations staff.
  • Monitor, track, and quantify all team public relations opportunities, including coach, player, and front office interviews and coverage.
  • Assist in gameday setup of media work room and manage credential table and part-time gameday staff members.
  • Prepare necessary gameday materials, up to and including single-game credentials, seating charts, and media parking lists.
  • Oversee the compilation and distribution of pre- and post-game notes and quotes from both teams.
  • Assist in the production of the Pacers annual media guide and team yearbook, including the compilation of statistical/historical data and information.
  • Assist in the overall execution of Pacers Basketball Communications events and initiatives, including Media/Content Day, press conferences, practices, and other events.
  • Attend practices and shootarounds to assist with media interview requests and occasionally attend appearances with players, coaches, front office executives and staff (to media venues and in the community).
  • Occasionally assist with department publications such as press releases, advisories and other written materials.
  • Update and manage the Pacers Basketball Communications X account on a daily basis.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, sports management, or related field preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and Adobe software.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, under pressure, and with tight deadlines.
  • Self-directed, with the ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Comfortable interfacing with executives, coaching staff, and players.
  • Organized and capable of working effectively in a demanding environment.
  • Excellent project management and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner.
  • Available to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
