Job Title: Assistant Minor League Dietitian
Reports To: Minor League Dietitian
Job Purpose: The Assistant Minor League Dietitian will work as a member of the Player Development Department to maximize player health and performance. The Assistant Minor League Dietitian will leverage their knowledge and training to plan, organize, and execute affiliate performance nutrition. This person will oversee and carry out minor league nutrition for affiliates within the Cincinnati Reds organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the administration of the Cincinnati Reds Nutrition Program throughout the Low-A and Dominican Republic teams.
- Oversee evidence-based performance nutrition education and counseling for players, through handouts, digital media, individual/group presentations, and team talks.
- Travel to the Dominican Republic to evaluate and oversee compliance daily menu offerings, conduct 1:1 player meetings and team education to implement nutrition initiatives, education, and player health and performance.
- Ensure proper food safety and sanitation procedures are met at assigned affiliates.
- Maintain communication with the affiliate’s health and performance staff to support player routines, addressing individualized and team needs.
- Provide nutrition injury and supplement recommendations based on department protocol.
- Utilize education in medical nutrition therapy to address clinical issues within the athlete population (including but not limited to: Diabetes, Lipid Levels, Vitamin D/Bone Mineral Density, Disordered Eating patterns).
- Perform daily hydration testing and result-based suggestions based on department protocol.
- Evaluate and research NSF for Sport Supplements.
- Perform nutrition assessments and individualized meal plans as needed, including throughout the offseason.
- Maintain communication with in-house catering, field coordinator, and Catering Coordinator regarding appropriate menus, player and staff food allergies, and meal times.
- Communication with Minor League Nutrition Coordinator regarding player allergies, supplement ordering, injury modifications, charting notes, and individual circumstances.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to apply evidence-based dietary interventions that promote performance.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Independent judgement and ability to multitask is required.
- Ability to maintain professionalism in the workplace environment.
- High level of interpersonal skills to be able to effectively communicate with a wide range of departments, seniority levels, and personalities.
- Ability and desire to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- A positive, friendly personality with a passion for sports performance.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Platform.
Experience, Education, and Licensure
- CDR Registered Dietitian Credential Required
- Master’s Degree in Nutrition Science, Food Science, Exercise Physiology, or related field, preferred
- 1-2+ Years Experience in Performance Nutrition
- Working proficiency of written and spoken Spanish is highly preferred.
- Valid Passport
Requirements:
- Must be able to work unconventional hours, to include nights, weekends, and some holidays.
- Spoken and written fluency in English.
- Spanish-speaking preferred.
- Ability to travel within the United States as well as abroad.
- Willing to relocate. Position is based in Daytona Beach, FL during the Minor League Season with monthly travel to the Dominican Republic (7-10 days). Attendance in AZ for Spring Training is required. Coverage of 2 weeks of offseason camp in AZ is required.
