Position Summary

The Goalkeeping Coaching position is tasked with leading our top young goalkeeping prospects from the Pre-Formation Phase (11-12 years old) through the Pro-Formation Phase (13-15 years old) in preparation for the MLS NEXT Pro Pathway. This Coach must be able to create and nurture a holistic, long-term learning environment where players take responsibility for their development, are supported through the ups and downs of the experience and are held to high standards on and off the field. This position, in collaboration with the Scouting Department, is responsible for identifying top goalkeeping prospects, from across our Homegrown Territory and beyond.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Primary focus will be to lead the Pro-Formation (U14-U15) goalkeeper pool while overseeing and collaborating with other staff on Pre-Formation (U12-U13) goalkeeper development.
  • This full-time position operates 4 training sessions per week and typically 1 match per weekend while traveling to scheduled MLS NEXT events.
  • Collaborate with staff (and the CLT FC Goalkeeper Department) to deliver the goalkeeping curriculum and club philosophy, based on the relevant age group.
  • The coach will provide feedback within matches, while reviewing performances with goalkeepers prior to the next match.
  • The coach will record coaching sessions and review with the Club and Academy Head of Goalkeeping.
  • The coach will complete and review a goalkeeper development plan in 6-week cycles.
  • The coach will be responsible for constructing individual development plans for each goalkeeper and review every 6 weeks.
  • The role includes field work with U-12 and U-13 Goalkeepers, bi-weekly, in 8-week cycles (CLT FC Discovery Program).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Must pass pre-employment screens.
  • US Soccer “B” or UEFA “B” License preferred.
  • Worked within a professional youth development setting preferred.
  • Valid US Driver’s License.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US.
  • Availability to work in non-traditional settings, and flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
  • Must pass pre-employment screens.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This position operates in a professional setting and on-field training environment. Must be comfortable with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word and other platforms. Local travel to events will be required.

  • Must be able to work in all Charlotte FC Academy matches, home and away, including on occasion internationally.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to remain sitting for up to 8 hours at a desk and computer.
  • Ability to remain standing/walking for up to 8 hours.
  • Ability to climb stairs.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, and endure weather conditions, including rain, wind, high and low temperatures, etc.
  • Must be able to work in non-traditional settings, and work non-traditional hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
