About Charlotte FC

Charlotte FC played its inaugural season in Major League Soccer in 2022. The club set a MLS attendance record in its opening game with over 74,000 spectators in Bank of America Stadium and has been at the top of MLS in attendance throughout its first two seasons. The club has a fully funded player development pathway that is tasked with identifying and developing professional players from across the Carolinas and beyond to play in Major League Soccer (MLS).

Position Summary

The Academy Scout position will play an integral role in talent identification initiatives with an emphasis on professional player development opportunities for under-22 soccer players.

Primary Responsibilities

On-field Responsibilities:

  • Scouting of soccer matches and training sessions utilizing a given set of evaluation markers.
  • Conduct individual player analysis to aid evaluation of potential players’ performance in line with club philosophy.
  • Assist with set up and implementation of the player trial process.
  • Attend periodic Charlotte FC, Crown Legacy FC and Charlotte FC Academy training sessions and games.
  • Adhere to and emphasize the club values and the importance of being respectful, humble, and professional.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Off-field Responsibilities:

  • Review match analysis to evaluate prospective player performance and suitability.
  • Organize and lead Talent ID Centers within region.

Prepare video feedback and data analysis regarding recommended players.

Provide regular updates to Charlotte FC Scouting Department on player evaluations and talent identification initiatives.

  • Ensure collection and storage of data on trial players and potential trial players.
  • Assist key stakeholders in Scouting department, Charlotte FC, Crown Legacy FC, and Charlotte FC Academy in establishing player identification guidelines.
  • Follow formal guidelines for approaching clubs and prospective players.
  • Follow the procedure for signing and introducing new players to assure quality of service.
  • Screen trialists to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach for departmental input.
  • Attend all regularly scheduled scouting meetings and important staff meetings.
  • Regularly drive to scout matches and training sessions as required.
  • Track academy player applications.
  • Tour prospective players and families around Charlotte FC facility.
  • Assist with education of college placement process for academy players
  • Develop relationships with youth soccer clubs/contacts in the region
  • Ensure that the club code of conduct is always maintained.
  • Maintain the integrity of the club at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 3 years of talent identification experience.

• Availability to work in non-traditional settings, and work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary.

• Must pass pre-employment screens.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree

• Scouting qualification

• Bilingual or multi-lingual skills preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Sitting at desk and computer for long periods of time.

• Must be able to traverse various athletic grounds and facilities.

• Prolonged periods of standing or walking.

• Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.

Work Environment

This job operates in an office environment as well as outside on athletic fields. Candidate must be able to work both indoors and outdoors, and endure weather conditions including rain, wind, high and low temperatures.
