Position Summary

The Atlanta Falcons Manager of Football Communications is responsible for executing overall media strategy and tactical efforts for football communications, digital operations and community relations, in alignment with the objectives for multiple departments. They will assist in overseeing the football communications team while providing daily support and media coordination in various areas. They will lead the charge in developing digital initiatives for the football communications department.

This position manages communications efforts for the Falcons defensive coordinator, the Falcons leading player on defense and other players while helping oversee the Falcons football communications coordinators player executions. The position will oversee the Falcons football communications seasonal assistant and training camp interns.

Versatility, passion, relationship building and a strong sense of urgency are critical to the success of this position. This fast-paced and challenging opportunity requires strong organizational, communication and storytelling skills (verbal and written), creative ability and a proactive detail oriented mindset in order to help create synergy between multiple integrated teams.

The ideal candidate possesses excellent media relations skills, a vision for digital production and a proven track record of managing client relationships.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist in overseeing the football communications department while serving as lead communications contact when Vice President and Director of Football Communications are unavailable.
  • Lead digital initiatives for the football communications department.
  • Manage communication efforts for Falcons defensive coordinator and Falcons leading player on defense.
  • Help oversee player media interviews process involving Falcons football communications coordinators.
  • Manage relationships with both local and national media.
  • Oversee Falcons football communications seasonal assistant and training camp interns.
  • Oversee Falcons football communications weekly release process.
  • Maintain and update media website.
  • Lead player award campaigns.
  • Create and design statistical football infographics using innovative platforms.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of professional experience in a communications setting; i.e., PR agency, in-house communications department, sports team, etc.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge and understanding of news media, digital communications, digital/social media, marketing and how all work together
  • Strong media relations skills, solid experience in day-to-day account management, media relationship building, and integrated marketing experience
  • Solid client relations, project management and media outreach skills and the ability to play a primary, independent implementation role
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement when establishing priorities
  • Experience working effectively with external audiences and communities
  • Social media experience and an understanding of digital media trends
  • Excellent verbal, writing and presenting skills
  • Passion for giving back, both personally and professionally
