Director, Publications, Alumni Relations & Team History
Job Purpose
The Arizona Diamondbacks are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director to support three communications functions in publications, alumni relations and team history. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in storytelling, publications production, creative writing, managing relationships with former players, identifying historical moments and capturing those moments in time. This role will function in a service capacity to the organization’s business departments, support major team initiatives and drive fan affinity through creative storytelling, compelling content and activations, and celebrating team/player accomplishments. This seasoned professional must possess a deep understanding of the sports industry, be an effective storyteller, exhibit deep understanding of the team’s history and effectively build structure, systems and processes.
Key Responsibilities:
PUBLICATIONS
- Produce high quality publications with strong storytelling and compelling content for the team’s Spring Training Program, annual Yearbook and D-backs Insider homestand magazine.
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure storytelling of key initiatives.
- Work with Corporate Partnerships to ensure partnership activations are met.
- Create and maintain a consistent voice and brand identity across all publications.
ALUMNI RELATIONS
- Build and maintain the team’s alumni database to keep up-to-date.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for alumni engagement.
- Build, develop and maintain relationships with alumni.
- Lead alumni engagement efforts with departments like Corporate Partnerships, Ticket Sales & Service, Special Projects, Community Affairs and Arizona Diamondbacks Events & Entertainment.
- Manage the Arizona Diamondbacks Hall of Fame.
- Lead and execute celebrations of the team’s milestone anniversaries.
- Partner with the communications, social media and content teams to identify storytelling opportunities for engaging, high-quality content.
TEAM HISTORY
- Conduct a thorough needs assessments of team archives and recommend suitable solutions.
- Create and design a tool to catalog memorabilia in the archives.
- Organize and catalog the physical items in the archives.
- Work with Clubhouse and Authentics to gather mementos for the team’s memorabilia archives.
- Manage the Arizona Diamondbacks Hall of Fame and History Museum to showcase memorabilia and build displays for storytelling.
COMMUNICATIONS
- Support the Communications team’s various functions.
- Develop and implement a strategy to align with the vision and goals.
- Seek to amplify, engage and support/deliver to the business goals.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices.
- Effectively collaborate, support and work closely with business departments to support their needs in an effective manner.
- Enhance fan experience and create emotional connections to the past.
- Foster a collaborative, fun, respectful and creative working environment.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
- 6+ years of proven experience across functions including but not limited to publications production, creative writing, working with and communicating with former players, and identifying, celebrating and storytelling around team and player accomplishments.
- Strong leadership and team management skills that model respect and trust among the department and with functional partners.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- In-depth knowledge of publication design and creative writing/storytelling.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Effectively create and manage systems and consistently populate with updated information.
- Flexibility with work schedule that includes weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate the baseball season and Arizona Diamondbacks Events & Entertainment productions encapsulating a 365-days-a-year business.
- Passion for sports and understanding of the sports fan base.
