POSITION TITLE: English Language Instructor (Japanese)

SUMMARY

Seattle Sounders FC is looking for a part-time Instructor with Japanese language fluency to work with players on improving their English language skills. The Instructor will meet with students for 1-2 hours a day, approximately 1-2 times a week virtually via Microsoft Teams/Zoom. May transition to hybrid learning with virtual and in-person sessions at Sounders Headquarters & Training Facility in Renton, WA depending on location of Instructor. Candidates must have experience teaching ESL; experience in sports and teaching athletes is a plus.

Compensation for this role will be paid at a rate of $50 – 60/hour; contract terms will be outlined and agreed upon by the Independent Contractor (IC) and Sounders FC (SFC).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide regular and ongoing ESL instruction to players and/or coaches including, but not limited to, regular online and/or in-person classes, tutoring sessions and assessments, as well as supplemental applied language and cultural immersion experiences.
Maintain records of student’s progress, assignments, and goals.
Communicate and collaborate with Head of Education and Director of Development.
Provide translation services as requested.
Adhere to all club policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Japanese language fluency required.
Must have at least one year of ESL teaching experience or equivalent in mentoring, tutoring, or alternative education.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related field preferred.
Certification in teaching and ESL is a plus.
Preferably based in Washington to work a hybrid schedule if needed.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and virtual teaching methods.
Must be able to pass a standard criminal background check.
