Job Summary
This Senior Graphic Design position is an upper level working role, working in a team approach with other Designers, Interns, and the Creative Director on a variety of projects and assignments. Assignments primarily come from the Creative Director, and the Creative Project Manager. The ideal candidate is a proactive individual, with well-developed critical thinking skills who can process, react to, and solve problems in a timely manner as they arise.

Responsibilities
Primary:
- Understand the Pirates brand, voice, and audience to produce visuals that inspire our brand story while also building authentic relationships
- Lead a team of graphic designers, provide feedback on design work, and hold review sessions.
- Design print, outdoor and web ads for various marketing initiatives; also participate in integration of concepts into television and web commercials.
- Conceptualize, plan, and execute designs for logos, tickets, brochures, direct mail, invitations, signage, and other collateral pieces for sales departments, while meeting deadlines.
- In coordination with others in the design group, design and layout pages of Pirates publications.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions with creative team to establish a cohesive advertising campaign each season.
- Keeping in mind the priorities of individual departments, establish and adhere to a defined and realistic delivery schedule related to the department's goals and the goals of the organization.
- Ensure that all creative design solutions meet the standards defined in the Pirates brand style guide.
- Effectively communicate design rationale and concepts to department leadership.
- Work closely with outside agencies, contractors, printers, and other vendors as required, advising and policing Pirates branding & logo usage.
- Maintain an up-to-date library of all art elements, including team marks/logos, and photos.
- Stay informed on developments and trends in visual arts, graphic design, and software.
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Secondary:
- Facilitate photo shoots, both with team photographer and within the department when appropriate
Qualifications
Required:
- Authorized to work lawfully in the United States.
- Four-year related degree and a minimum of 5-8 years design experience in an in-house creative department or design firm.
- Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, working knowledge of motion graphics.
- Possess strong conceptual skills, high level sense of design, layout and typography, a broad thinker who can offer a variety of design solutions.
- Adaptable and quick learner. Must be able to apply style guides creatively while upholding brand identity for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
- Expert knowledge of the graphic production process.
Desired:
- Graphic Design experience in a sports or entertainment setting.
- Drawing ability.
