JOB SUMMARY

The Philadelphia Phillies is looking for an analytical professional who will be responsible for a wide variety of payroll and accounting duties. This position will support all tasks necessary to accurately and efficiently process payroll and its related accounting. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, highly organized, eager to learn, self-motivated and devoted to meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the preparation of Major League and Minor League player payroll, including the preparation and maintenance of numerous earnings and deductions schedules.
  • Administer the payroll process for Dominican Republic-based employees; effectively communicate with a third-party payroll vendor to accurately disburse payroll funds in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile player salaries, signing bonuses, award and performance bonuses, and additional earnings and deductions with completed payroll documentation and executed player contracts.
  • Communicate with Baseball Operations to ensure player transactions and contract terms are accurately reflected in the payroll system.
  • Assist with player onboarding and collection of new hire documentation through communication with both players and staff.
  • Ensure the accuracy of player and staff payrolls and the allocation of associated taxes to proper state and city jurisdictions.
  • Assist with payroll related general ledger accounts and underlying supporting analyses for the close process.
  • Prepare, review and post journal entries in the Accounting system.
  • Assist with the monthly close process, including the preparation of various balance sheet and profit & loss account reconciliations.
  • Assist with annual creation and weekly maintenance of cash forecast and annual budgets; provide periodic cash forecast and budget analysis.
  • Maintain post-payroll analyses to reflect and detail changes on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Reconcile payroll receivables to collect outstanding balances in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate the taxation of various earnings with Accounts Payable.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum two years’ progressive experience in an Accounting or Payroll setting.
  • Bilingual with ability to read, write and speak Spanish preferred, or willingness to learn.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required; proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Proven track record demonstrating a high degree of discretion, integrity, professionalism and accountability.
  • Highly organized, accurate and detail oriented.
  • Comfortable within a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and interest in baseball including player transactions and rosters.
  • Multi-jurisdiction tax knowledge.
  • Must be on-site a minimum of 3 days per week or more as job requirements and/or company policy may require.
  • Ability to travel outside of the Philadelphia region up to two weeks at a time, including, but not limited to, Clearwater, FL during February and March each year.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays and extended hours as needed.
